BBB having a 3.4 rating on Google is one of the most funny ironic things I’ve ever seen. Absolute grifters.

Update: 11/8/2021 After further investigation by the Better Business Bureau they saw that a negative review that gotput on by a past employee portraying themselves as a customer with negative comments was removed. I wish services have been a little more professional in the very beginning, but I'm pleased that these false negative reviews were removed. I wish I could give them a NEGITIVE 5 STARS! This organization used to be a pillar in the community for a place that you could go to review the truth about business and how it's conducted themselves amongst other businesses. However, it has become an "old boys club" that only if you spend money with them will they get you a good review and work with you on people who have left your company a bad review. To repeat, now all they are is a place where you can have your reputation hurt by fake reviews and when you ask them to investigate it and they just want money.

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
We are sorry you had a poor experience with us. We do not allow fake reviews and do our best to verify the review is from someone that has had a marketplace interaction with your business. Your business does have an A+ rating with us and you have not paid BBB anything. Businesses pay a fee to use BBB benefits if they meet BBB Standards for Trust but that does not affect their rating or online profile. We'd love to discuss this with you further, you can reach out to [email protected] or call us at 801-892-6009.

Seriously. I would expect more from a local business (like the BBB who only wants to revive a dying brand) If you want to be of service to the community, consider not trying to be another Google. Act as an intermediate between other local business' in your community (like mine) and customers in the community. A non-customer of my firm posted an obviously slanderous stream of vitriol, much of which is slanderous and potentially liable. Apparently there was no vetting process, and you don't even need to be a customer of the said business you complain about to complain. Bad Business.

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
We are sorry you had a bad experience. BBB does act as an intermediate when someone files a complaint requesting assistance. We do verify that the reviewer has had a marketplace interaction with the business but money does not necessarily need to be exchanged in order to be a consumer. We'd love to help your business further you can reach us at 801-892-6009 or at [email protected].

the BBB is a total sham job. they tell business to get their customers to write reviews on their site, if they dont like the business, they take any positive reviews down. these folks in the SLC office are dishonest, they violate the Federal review fairness act. if you read the reviews here on google. you will notice that many of the 5 star rated reviews are for other businesses, and not for the BBB total fraudsters for taking money from business and giving good ratings

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah

BBB is just a business, they want you to pay to be on their site. They pressure you to join, they called my business over and over trying to make me join after telling them no. I can get all I need off online review sites like google. they do not have power or authority to correct problems you have with other businesses other than to harass a company about someone's complaint. Don't waste money paying BBB to put your company on their site so others can complain about you, people are more likely to complain than leave a good review in general on any site. You can get your company reviewed free on google and other sites.

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
You do not have to pay for a BBB Business Profile. We do charge for Accreditation which means a business meets standards of trust. If you want to let us know your business name we'd be happy to put you on our do not call list. We'd also love to educate you more on what BBB does and stands for in our community.

Jiffy Lube Eagle Mountain Utah broke a spark plug wire while replacing all spark plugs and didn't tell us until we had to bring it back because it was running rough. Apparently they didn't do it right the 2nd time either it shorted the other wires. We were moving from Utah to California towing a 5th wheel and wanted the tune up done before we left. I had to hire a tow company to tow the 5th wheel back to California and then when I got to California had to take the truck to a mechanic to fix what Jiffy Lube messed up. Brian from Jiffy Lube apologized a 100 times saying they should have recommend all new wires in the beginning and told me to send him the mechanic bill of 198.00 to him and he would submit paperwork to office for a refund. Three weeks later no refund. Today I called and he said it was denied. Thanks Brian!!! Bad business and bad experience.

In July I contacted Mr. Appliance to repair my Kitchenaid dishwasher. We scheduled the first appointment for the following Monday. I scheduled my day around that visit, but was they called they had to cancel and would be there on Thursday. Again I planned my day around their visit. Their repair person was on time but need to order a part. Then a week goes by and I had to call. We'll call you back when we know the time the repair person can come. This cycle went four rounds with the supervisor coming out twice. They said they weren't sure whether the next round of ordering a part and trying it out would work AND the the new part was back ordered. After hand washing our dishes for over fives weeks and my lack of confidence that Mr. Appliance would ever be able to repair my dishwasher, I told to end the seemingly endless repair cycle. I wanted a refund they demanded - before the machine was even repaired. After three calls asking about my refund and 85 days since I started with Mr. Appliance, I have my refund and a brand new dishwasher. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Mr. Appliance in anyway.

Better Business Bureau is both misleading and unfair in the way they conduct business, which is ironic since purportedly their purpose is to stop misldeading and unfair business practices. Let me give you an example. I own an HOA management company. The HOA board is my legal customer. The board hires me and is the only person/entity that can fire me. My contract is with the board, as is my legal fiduciary duty. The board told me to place violation stickers on vehicles that are parked on HOA roads against the rules (the HOA has the legal right to do so). I did so. My customer, the board, was very happy with my work. However, as you might expect, people in violation of the rule who received violation stickers were unhappy. They posted negative "Customer Reviews" or "Customer Complaints" with the BBB. I explained to the BBB that these reviews and complaints were not from my customers. I even provided case law that explains that homeowners in an HOA are not the customers or clients of the management company -- the board is. My actual customer, the board, told the BBB that they were very happy with me. The BBB acknowledged that these people providing negative "Customer Reviews" and "Customer Complaints" were not actually customers, but they would not remove negative reviews and complaints because these individuals had an "interaction" with my company. So the BBB knowingly misleads people by saying that this negative review is from my customer, when it is not. Not only is this practice misleading, but it is an unfair practice as well. My job is to help the board enforce rules and collect dues. Even when my customer tells the BBB that what I am doing is what they want me to do and is consistent with their community rules, the BBB won't remove the reviews and complaints against my company for making my actual customer happy. The BBB has put me in an unfair no-win situation. Either I breach my contract with my client by refusing to do the very thing I'm paid to do (enforce the rules and collect dues) or I do my job enforcing the rules and get bad reviews which the BBB won't remove because violators don't like being told they have to follow the rules or pay their dues. When I spoke with the BBB they said they would not and could not change their misleading and unfair practice because it was their policy to call anyone that has an interaction with a business a customer and they won't remove any review or complaint from such an interaction. An organization that's very policies are misleading and unfair shouldn't be rating other businesses for the same, particularly when the way they rate is itself based on misleading and unfair practices. I won't even get started on the shakedown that is their accreditation "service."

The BBB is a joke and their website from the 90s proves it. The only way to boost your business rating is to become a paying member. This is not a true reflection to potential customers of how a business operates. Since they're losing market share to Google, their prices keep going up. Definitely a dying business.

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
BBB has ratings on accredited and non-accredited businesses, being accredited does not help your rating. Accreditation is a way for businesses to set themselves apart and let consumers know they have met certain standards https://www.bbb.org/bbb-accreditation-standards and are a business that can be trusted. We are a non-profit and yes our accreditation does come with a small annual fee, we have to keep the lights on too!

I was a paying member since 1998 after 15 years the program the rates to be a member kept going up the value going down ! Some of my competitors had an F- rating but guess what as soon as they paid the $400+++ they had a A+ rating overnight HMM. I saw the scam writing on the wall so I quit paying they were not happy and contacted me on many occasions to be a accredited member I said no I have a A+ and happy with that . guess what the now gave me a F rating due to a logo issue on my website I took it off as soon as I could figure out how ... the BBB is a freaking scam irrelevant and will be out of business one day soon I hope.. if your a business owner don't waste your hard earned money or trust this private company

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
BBB would like to assist you further. Your comment about competitors with an F rating paying and receiving an A+ rating is incorrect. Buying our tile from Old World Stone was an easy experience, the sales staff was helpful and knowledgeable. After the sale they provided VERY POOR customer support. We had multiple problems, but they deferred all problems to the installer, who was the problem. They had no quality control process but left all quality questions or problems up to the installer who was contacted by OWSI, not us. We requested help several times and invited our sales person, to come and see the installation quality (we live less than a mile away from OWSI store) but there was no response. The installation took almost a month and a half. Problems with quality includes; wrong size grout gaps, inconsistent tile gaps, tiles not flat or straight on the wall or floor, sloppy grout lines, crooked and very poorly installed drain, and chipped floor tiles. We felt that OWSI customer service was only when it is convenient for them. It was apparent early on that the quality of the work was poor and not what we asked for. We felt abandoned by OWSI and feel that better customer support should have been given.

So if you look at the BBB's rating in a Google search then you will see that they have a 3 start rating! Yet we should trust that they will dictate what info represents other businesses in an ethical manner?? If you were in school then that would be a C grade! The BBB is nothing more than an online “pay to play” review company. They call my business all the time asking me if I pay $500 a year then I could possibly be BBB accredited. Yet I noticed that they choose what reviews they will post and which ones they don’t as I found that they were blocking several positive reviews due to being “possibly fake” but yet all the negatives of course must be legit? So if you pay them off like they want then they make you look good, but if you don’t pay them they can skew how a business looks until you do. Hopefully an anti-trust lawsuit is filed against them soon as to many gullible people think that “if it is on the BBB then it must be true and accurate”, but they don’t realize all that goes on behind the shadows as the BBB withholds certain info and they skew what they represent all while cold calling businesses to pay them $500 or more a year to be accredited. So if you see an accredited business then you basically know that they paid off the BBB for it as opposed to those who didn’t. I have 4/5 stars in reviews with the BBB yet they have me down for an F rating??? Again, 4/5 stars is higher then what they themselves have online. THIS ORGANIZATION IS A JOKE!

Reply from Better Business Bureau of Utah
Mr. Kocherhans, Some of your facts are incorrect. BBB does not publish reviews if they are not verified or if the are determined to be fake, regardless of positive, negative or neutral status. We are happy to discuss our processes with you further or help you improve your F rating. You can call our office at 801-892-6009 or email [email protected].

I am wanting to warn others about the Ojedas Auto LLC. in Murray, UT. I have been extremely frustrated with them, because they lied to us several times, were very unprofessional, and never produced any documentation with regards to repairs that they said they completed. We purchased a van from them under the impression that it was in "Good Condition" and it was not! The engine light turned on the night we brought it home and several codes came up and some of them were expensive repairs. When we took it back up to them, they originally said we could get our money back, but then changed their minds, because we had registered the vehicle in order to have temporary plates to drive it back up to them. When I called the DMV the next morning the man told me that they had lied to me and that it was still possible to transfer the ownership back to them and get a refund for the registration fees as well. When I contacted them about that, they said that was no longer an option and that they would just fix the problems. Plus, they had promised to give us documentation of the repairs completed and on the transmission that they said they had replaced, but they never did. As of right now, we haven't had any more codes pop up with regards to the engine light, but the sliding door they "fixed" broke less than a week after we brought it back home again. I don't trust them! Plus, they had us stand outside in the drizzling rain while we were talking to them and then they walked away from us in the middle of our conversation. That is extremely rude and unprofessional! I would never recommend doing business with them!

The place that IS PRIVATELY FUNDED AND NOT A GOVERNMENT AGENCY that you can pay yearly to have a “better” score than others just because you pay. I’m not sure I understand what this company does at all. A middle man for reviews? A waste of time. Incase you are all wondering. THE BBB CANNOT REGULATE OR ENFORCE ANYTHING. Your review is as pointless as you think it is no matter where you put it. Let’s shut this place down.

BBB has helped me before. Now hoping that XFINITY will play fair with my disabled son. MG signed up for XFINITY a few years back. Not including the problems experienced just getting XFINITY installed (and their price and switch tactics at the start), they have continued to raise his monthly charge and added features not requested. (i.e.: advanced package with remote voice control? MG is deaf and that is not a feature he ever wanted and/or could use...It does explain why XFINITY mailed him a remote a month or so ago that he had no idea why? We have asked them several times to cancel service. But, because I cannot remember some password from 5+ years ago, they won't. But they will periodically increase charges and add features to the very basic package he signed up for. XFINITY is taking advantage of a disabled person - and they know it!

Yesterday, Thomas Terry, Service Technician, and Eric Kent, Field Service Manager, with SameDay Heating & Air/Plumbing & Electric of Salt Lake City came by the house to perform an AC tune-up. They were most courteous and professional, even to the point of putting booties on their shoes so as not to track dirt into the house! They let us know that our furnace (19 years old) and AC (14 years old) needed a lot of maintenance and new parts. Thomas wrote up three detailed options for us, and we went with Option #3, which was to have a SameDay Comfort Advisor come over to analyze our home and suggest what new furnace and AC systems would best fit our needs. That happened today, when Tom Swayt came over and spent a couple hours assessing what furnace and AC configurations would work best for us. Tom was most knowledgeable and helpful as we weighed our options. Within hours after he had left, we called and gave him and SameDay the green light to proceed with high efficiency units that will qualify for rebates with Dominion Energy and Rocky Mountain Power. The warranties and service plans are excellent. We couldn't be happier with the time and attention given us by three SameDay professionals in a short 48-hour span. And "same day"? It's true, and who can beat that? We had a furnace go out years ago in January and it took several days for another company to come out and fix it. And we had to pay overtime. That won't happen with SameDay. Check them out. You will be most pleased!

We left and didnt think to look at our paperwork sunce we prepaid and i had never had a problem before. When we took the car back they said we owed another $249 for their insurance we told them no we didnt take it and they said you signed the contract. In my industry there is a company in Salt Lake City that takes advantage of their customers, has poor quality, does not comply with commitments, threatens their customers and has very poor Google reviews. This company currently has an A+ rating which is VERY deceiving and UN-helpful to consumers. I no longer see the need for BBB as Google reviews are more used and more detailed. Not only do Google reviews post negative reviews, but also positive. I hate to say it, but BBB is becoming obsolete as did yellow pages.

RJ Painting. I am a board member of a condo HOA and had Painter Bros bid a brick repair and sealing of the exterior of our building. When Randy McElhaney and his son called with their bid, the first question Randy asked was if I was getting other bids. He was disappointed when I told him we had one bid already and would get three bids. He was not happy about competition and then gave me a bid of 4 times the bid I already had. I thought he was joking, but he was serious. When I said I thought his bid was out of line, he got very upset and started calling me names and hung up.

Per Noi in Salt Lake City is scamming its customers. They bring you the bill and then charge your credit card a higher amount. They don't give you back the original bill when you sign your credit card receipt. They did this to us twice. Our bill was 49.06 and we asked it to be split 60/40. They returned with a receipt for $25. and one for $35. I called the owner over and he asked if $20. and $30. was better. I said no, still more than the $49.06 total. He tried to embarass me in front of the other customers as well!!!

I recently had new windows installed by Alpine Exteriors. I had 20 year old double pane windows that were not cutting it anymore. Hiram came to my house, and explained the features of the different windows he has available. I purchased Simonton triple pane windows for the price of double pane windows from the competition. The installers were at my house at the scheduled time. They were very professional, and did a wonderful job with the install. Hiram supplied the paperwork needed for the energy rebates, and I could not be happier with the Simonton windows, and the install. I would highly recommend Alpine Exteriors. ds/Murray

I continue to receive sales calls form BBB trying to sell me on advertising. Every time I ask to be on put on their do not call list and they stop for maybe 6 months then start up again. I wish they were listed on their own website so I could file a complaint.

Beautiful Skin P.O. Box 26008 Salt Lake City, Utah 84126 On Tuesday, September 6, 2016 I attempted to place an order for a free trial of a skin cream this company had advertised. I found the website to be extremely difficult to navigate, in that customers apparently had to decline each product before it would advance to the next page. When I realized the problem, I was not able to back up and change the order. I ended up with three products, at a total of $35.95 which was immediately billed to my card. On Wednesday, September 7, I called to explain the problem, and ask that the order be cancelled. I was informed that it was too late to cancel the order because it had already been shipped, and that I should call back when I received the product. I then received an email from the company stating that the product had been shipped on September 8. I received the product today, and the company will only refund the product price, not the shipping, and that I had to pay the return shipping, in spite of the fact that I had cancelled the order BEFORE it was shipped. I was told by the customer service supervisor, Shaniqua, that if I did not in fact return the product within two weeks, I would then be billed for the two "free trial" items for the amount of $89.99 each. How can I possibly be filled $180 for something that was advertised as free? To me, this is not customer service. This is unfair and deceptive business practices, and the consumer has no recourse whatsoever. Save yourself some trouble and steer clear of this company.

4 Seasons Concrete. They did not take the time square the footing or to straighten out the footings. My weight bearing footing was curved and had 3 segments that went 2 different directions in order to end up in the correct place. They were still putting up forms for the foundation walls while the pumper truck was waiting to pour the foundation. The TGI shelf was uneven causing the framers to have to sim up the cleat plate and raising my floor. They did not square the foundation walls.

They protect member businesses who pay and hurt those who do not. They are a legal protection racket.

They are hopeless. They obviously are more concerned with keeping businesses happy than dealing with poor service from companies. They just accept whatever a company states and end it there with no alternatives given. No value at all.

Intellibed store, on Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Bought an Intellibed in Salt Lake City on Highland Dr. I am very happy with the bed but have another issue. Part of my purchase was buying a seat cushion and receiving another one for free. That was in October, it is now June, and I still do not have the cushion. I just talked with the "former" but still involved owner, who refused to honor my order. The salesperson must not have put the "second cushion" on the receipt. So, word to the wise, for ANY purchase....CONFIRM the salesperson has put EVERYTHING discussed, any promotional items offered, etc. on the bill. IT HAS TO BE IN WRITING! In this day and age, there is NO such thing as a word of honor nor respect for the customer.

The BBB was instrumental in my getting closure with a company. The company would not return my calls or texts. I then started to receive emails from several companies only to find out that the financial part of the business was taken over by another company. Needless to say it was a mess. We managed to get things settled. Without the BBB it would not have gotten done. Beware of internet companies that farm out all parts of their operation. I had no idea that a company would do this.

They just love how they find companies that have one complaint and then they lower there grade down to an F. even though the company fixed that complaint about five months prior to the grading.

I had a dispute with a dental office with one of the services they have provided without our knowledge... I have contacted BBB and they have tried to resolve the dispute between me and dental office. I was able to get the full refund. The BBB website is very easy to use... I have filed the complaint online and I was able to track the status of the complaint. I would recommend BBB to anyone if they come across any issues with businesses.

I experienced difficulty in getting warranty work accomplished by UTS and Iconic Repair. My main problem was getting an experienced technician from Iconic Repair to accomplish the work. I turned to the BBB and within a few days had UTS contacting me to resolve the problem. I ended up with a new piece of exercise equipment that I believe I would not have received without the help of the BBB. Although all my interaction was done through emails with the BBB, they acted promptly and efficiently to resolve this issue.

Too many consumers nowadays are just "nuts". They hide behind their keyboards and act like children and when they don't get their way after throwing a tantrum they go to social media and cry foul !!!! The BBB does a great job of weeding this out the best they can. Don't rely on online reviews. Not even this one. Check with your friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. ALWAYS consider how much business a company may do. If a company has a lot of customers and you only find a few bad reviews that is a good indication they are doing things RIGHT, not wrong. Use the BBB as a guide.

I had a very bad experience with Deep Blue Pools and Spas and could not get them to either complete the work in a timely fashion or return my money. I finally turned to the BBB and, with the help of a State of Utah licensing official, received a full refund.

A couple of years ago, My wife and I had signed up with Vivint Security out of Utah. Since we lived in Utah previously, we thought we would give them a try. Their service and equipment was much better than we had before with ADT and everything was good. However, when we moved down the street two years later, I called and asked a representative what to do with the service and equipment. I was told " no problem, we will remove the equipment and re-install it at your new location" Great I thought. Upon moving in, Vivint showed up and had all new equipment. I told the tech what I was told and he stated that they didn't remove old equipment and move it. Okay.........so he continued to install all new equipment. About a month later, I receive a bill for $199.00 for a new installation. I called Vivint and stated that I had not been told about the charge. After going thru a supervisor or two, they decided to split the bill and I could pay $99. which I did. Then I find out that they started the contract of 42 months all over again!!! What??!! So I called again and they couldn't care less. Results, I was stuck with 3 and a half more years of a system I didn't want in the first place but had no choice. If I didn't take it with me they were going to bill me anyway. I contact the BBB and after only 2-3 weeks Vivint contacted me with a resolution. I am now back on the original contract which will end in a year. Thanks to BBB for being there and getting involved when in this day and age, no one else will.

Few months ago I had a bad experience with a financial coaching service of a company based in USA. Phone calls and e-mails didn´t help me. I had considered my money lost because I´m nonresident in USA. A friend told me about BBB and I sent a complaint. The support from BBB was really committed with my request and their formats were easy to fill. The business accepted to refund a proportional amount. I find BBB is great support for nonresidents customers. Thanks BBB.

I was having an issue with storagecraft which makes shadow protect, a computer backup/disk imaging software. The company told me that my license was valid, but they would no longer allow it to be authorized on ANY computer, making the software unusable. At that time, I asked for a refund of the money paid for the product and was told that the EULA does not allow refunds, and the company further stated that they would no longer respond to my emails. I went to the BBB of Utah and within two days i received an email from the company stating that they were issuing a full refund plus a refund on any money spent on upgrades when a new version was released. I was just amazed! I live in NY state and they helped me track the company down and get me my money back, fabulous!! I cannot recommend the BBB of Utah enough!!

I was having an issue with a storage company, they stated that my account was always delinquent and they even threatened to auction off my personal belongings. I had showed them all my receipts which proved that my account was current. After a year of receiving threatening notices and dealing with very nasty attitudes I contacted the Better Business Bureau and within a month or so my dispute was resolved along with a formal apology from the storage company! Thanks BBB.

WE PUCHASED A USED VEHICLE FROM A MAJOR AUTO DEALERSHIP. BOTH OF THE KEY FOBS WERE WORN OUT. NEW ONES WERE ON A WE OWE/YOU OWE PAPER SIGNED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE US WITH NEW ONES. THEY NEVER GAVE US THE NEW ONES UNTIL WE CONTACTED THE BBB HERE IN UTAH. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A MISCOMUNICATION--BULL. THANK YOU BBB.

I had purchased an elliptical and the warranty with the product. 2 weeks after getting it, It was not working properly. For the next 4months I went back and forth with the retailer. They continued to send a vendor to "fix" the problem. (every 2 weeks a vendor would be back) - They would not let me return the machine (even with receipt and being told that is what the warranty was for). I turned to the BBB to assist - they were amazing! The situation was resolved. I would highly recommend them to anyone having an issue with a retailer or service provider.

The BBB was essential to helping me resolve my dispute with a business provider. I created a BBB complaint and within only a few weeks, the vendor had replied to my complaint and also provided the services I had been promised in full. Without the BBB, I'd still be waiting and hoping to receive the services I had paid for. Thank you BBB.

I ordered Levela online--it was supposed to be a free trial. They ask you to try it for 6 weeks, but in small print at the bottom, which I did not see, they tell you that you must cancel within 10 days or they will charge your credit card $200 for the product. I also though I put this on a different credit card. When I realized what was happening, I contacted Levela to cancel, sent all the product I had back to them, and contacted my credit card company. Levela contacted me and tried to convince me to drop the dispute, saying I would get nothing unless I did. I knew that was a bluff. However, I only got a partial refund with my credit card dispute. So I decided to file a complaint with the BBB. That got me the rest of my money. Thank you BBB!!!!!
