I highly recommend Dr. Matz and his team! I had what I thought was a complicated issue involving multiple teeth. I went for a second opinion and felt confident in his explanation and hoped his skill level was equal to his professional manner. I had been dealing with considerable pain and had a good amount of anxiety surrounding the up coming dental treatments. Dr. Matz and Jeanette were so kind and eased my nerves very early on I felt safe from the start and I knew I would be heard if I had any problems during the procedure. All went well and I am healing wonderfully. The skill of this dentist is impressive and I couldn’t have had a better outcome. Shout out to Emily for her welcoming personality and her thoroughness in communication with Dr. Matz.

I've been with Dr. Matz since 1991. As I told him recently I always feel I am "in good hands" with him. He is caring, careful and thorough, always willing to discuss/explain. Plus he has a great, down to earth sense of humor! The staff at Arbor View has also been unfailingly terrific over these many years.

My very first visit at ArborViewDental was amazing! It was quite literally the most comfortable I’ve been at the dentist in my whole life. I’m saying this and I had a temporary crown put on during that visit, so I feel that speaks volumes. Dr. Matz was so genuinely interested in helping me decide the plan of action that would best meet my personal dental health goals. I left there feeling super confident in Dr. Matz’s care and am happy that I finally found a Dentist that I trust enough to help me with my remaining dental issues.

After doing some in depth research on local holistic dentist to help me with a dental emergency I was having, Dr. Matz became my #1 choice. Dr. Matz took all my various concerns and anxieties about the procedure I would need & developed a treatment plan that would best address them. Before scheduling the procedure Dr. Matz let me come in to ask any questions I had & then scheduled the appointment for the oral surgery when he would be able to focus on my procedure exclusively. They took such good care of me during the oral surgery, going above and beyond to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. I searched online for a holistic dentist and found Dr. Matz in Portland. I needed advice and possible options regarding a front tooth that has been experiencing internal resorption. He looked at the xrays from my dentist in Medford and we chatted. Dr. Matz was very helpful and informative, providing me with further information and leads. I'm very grateful for him taking the time and care to help me regarding with this rare condition!

I was very impressed with how caring and thorough they were. Dr Matz addressed issues that most dentists don't. He brought up the question of why did the previous Dentist do so many x-rays. That's a great question. I just blindly trusted which is not in my health's best interest. I love their natural approach and that they don't use bleach in the water or fluoride in their treatment. And what a beautiful view from the chair! I'm very happy I decided to make the switch!

Dr Matz is very professional. He explained everything and did a very thorough exam. The staff is very knowledgeable as well. I did not feel less than or belittled because my oral hygiene was not sufficient. They simply gave me advice on how to improve and build better daily habits.

Douglas Matz is just wonderful. I recently had oral surgery and He took such good care of me. He was very patient with me. His work was just amazing. and he was very neat with the surgery. The staff are all so nice and friendly. Dentist for the long run for sure.

Review by Sharon D. I can honestly say Dr Matz basically saved my life! As incredible as that may sound, it is true. I had some previous very damaging dental work done by a different local dentist. This created an unmanageable, dangerous, and constantly painful dental situation with my mouth. This sent me to the emergency room at least once a month and some months 3 and 4 times. Constant Dr appointments. During the past year, I've been mostly bedridden due to the medical issues caused by the previous dental work. Dr Matz knew exactly what to do and is skilled and experienced with the methodology to repair the damage. I was very nervous the day I was to have the surgery. His very knowledgeable and comforting staff soon reassured me completely. As did Dr Matz himself. I was pain free, calm, and very comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Not one hurtful thing from start to finish. When finished, I was so thrilled to know the nightmare from the bad dentistry would be over! It seemed unbelievable! The after care was the best! Never a hesitation from any of the wonderful staff or Dr Matz to respond to any questions or needs I may have had. I only felt cared for. His Office Manager, Rayna, is an Angel. Sadly she will be venturing to a new environment in another state and will be sorely missed!! Love you, Rayna!! He now has a new, very kind, caring and fun receptionist, Linda. Love her too!! Dr Matz's Assistant, Courtney, is the Treatment Angel! I felt like I was being taken care of by a caring sister!! So competent, knowledgeable, caring and an excellent communicator! Answered my questions completely, in understandable language. Love her too!! I'm nearly totally well now from my nightmare health issue. My Cardiologist and Primary Care Dr will be as estatic as I am!! Can't thank Dr Matz enough!! He's the best ever!!

This review is written on my wife's computer and so the first name discrepancy I don"t know how to change it to only list my name, which is Bryce. Although she could attest to how happy I am to have learned about Dr. Matz. I was referred to Dr. Matz by our daughter who had several dental issues. After listening to her detailed explanations of how Dr. Matz patiently and painlessly approaches his patients and their individual fears, needs, pain tolerances as well as their medication and treatment responses she convinced me to schedule an appointment with him. I'm 60 years old and because of several bad experiences with dentists years ago I am a baby in the dentist chair and for several years delayed various needed dental work. My first experience with the doctor was that while working out of state I had fractured an upper tooth towards the back of my mouth. I did not realize at the time that is what happened as the pain started slowly and did not become intolerable for a week of so. The fracture exposed a nerve and eventually built to a severe and prolonged pain and to the point that I could not sleep for very long at one time at night. After about one week anything hot or cold touching the tooth caused pain so severe that I avoided eating or drinking anything that was not room temperature and did not chew at all on that side of the mouth. I have never had tooth pain so severe before. One night I was talking on the phone to our daughter about my tooth and that I was not sure I could make it back to Oregon before I needed to see a dentist due to the acute pain, and yet fearing an appointment with an unknown dentist while out of state. After listening to her describe Dr. Matz and his careful, skilled, methodical, and patient procedures I was resolved to wait until I got home, (which was another week away). To shorten the story I met with Dr. Matz who diagnosed my fractured tooth (which I had no knowledge of what the problem was until that time). I wish I was able to truly convey the entire story to help encourage anyone with previous bad dentist experiences to make an appointment with Dr. Matz. From beginning to end, Dr. Matz and his attendant nurse, were entirely thorough, patient, compassionate, technically skilled in not only the repair work itself, but in that from the moment you sit in the chair his experienced procedures made for a painless experience. I have always had extreme pain sensitivity to oral shots and drilling. NOT with Dr. Matz; I had ZERO pain from his shots..... ZERO! His methods and "attentive" process limited any pain to such a low level that I can objectively say that I have never experienced that little amount of pain in a dentist chair..... EVER! That was even more amazing to me in that the procedures needed to repair my tooth was quite extensive. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Matz, and his care and professionalism. If it were permitted I would give anyone with prior bad dentist experiences my personal cell number to hear me explain all the procedures I required and how Dr. Matz dealt comprehensively and successfully with each of them. Dr. Matz is also an instructor of dental students which gives me a growing confidence in a new compassionate and skilled dentist profession going forward. I went to Dr. Matz because I had an abscess root canal that needed to be extracted. I choose him as a provider because his practice is holistic and he is in my insurance network. I'm glad I did! I was very specific with how I wanted my root canal to be removed. Namely, I wanted him to thoroughly clean my socket after the extraction and he delivered. He even called me personally the next day to check on me. I definitely recommend Dr. Matz!

They were very kind and clear and answered all my questions, and they did good work. I also appreciated the arnica they offered. I’ve never had such a thorough examination.

I searched and researched to find Dr Matz and it was worth it! Had a tough extraction which he did and—hard to believe—there was no residual pain! It was done right. He and his staff are the best, friendly and open.

Dr. Matz and his staff make you feel like family when you are there. He recently repaired one of my crowns that was allowing food to get jammed up in between my teeth, and now I can eat without any discomfort. He and his crew are fantastic. So happy I found him and he has been my dentist for over three years now since I moved to this area. He has integrity, experience and is highly skilled, and just a really nice guy.

Dr Matz was kind enough to squeeze me in for some emergency dental work as a first time patient from out of town. He performed great work and his staff is very welcoming and kind. He was very informative and provided me with some good referrals to specialists as well. He even answered the phone and spoke with me at length about some questions I had regarding certain procedures. I have seen many dentists in my life and he is one of the most personable and caring that I have encountered. If I were staying in Portland I would absolutely keep him as my dentist!

Dr. Matz has been my dentist some twenty plus years. He’s just THAT GOOD! As much as he is a very skilled dentist, he is an abundantly compassionate soul. I trust him completely. Indeed, my daughter is also his client. He has my highest recommendation. I always leave his office feeling as good as one can possibly feel.

I'm very thankful to Dr. Matz! The work he did for a crown, on my front tooth, is the best I could ever hope for. My family and I were really amazed at how normal my tooth looks now. After having two other dentists really do a less than satisfactory job, I didn't have high hopes. I'm not embarrassed of this tooth anymore. Couldn't recommend his office enough.

Trully, honestly and most gratefully from the bottom of my heart I would like to thank Dr. Douglas Matz for the strong support and motivation in helping me study for one of the biggest exams of my life, The Dental Hygiene Board Exam. At a time when I felt so weak and lost, and didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, Dr. Matz met with me numerous times for a whole month. Helping me during his own time in providing guidance and encouragement through my studies and answered all my confusing questions. Now, after passing the exam I came to realize how much his support helped me succeed. Broke a molar over the weekend and found out Monday that my dentist has had a stroke but his best friend was covering some of his patients. I called Dr. Matz's office and was able to get in the next day. Very friendly greeting by all of the staff, exceptionally professional and helpful and made sure I was comfortable thoughout procedure. What a great experience from walking in, extraction, plan for future work and follow up. For those who are leary of dentistry, Dr. Matz and staff can change your perception of going to the dentist.

I had many trips to him and it was a pleasure. I am going to call him tomorrow for more work as he is the only dentist that has made me comfortable in the last 10 years.

I emailed Dr. Matz's on his website and he personally called me the following day. I’ve never experienced that level of service in a dentist and I’m not even his patient. He spent at least 15 minutes asking me questions about my concerns for my son’s overall body health and oral care/treatment for his cavities, directed me to excellent research resources, and offered to review his current x-rays. He was very caring and attentive as well as encouraging. We then met him in person for a consult and he followed through just as thoroughly. After doing some research on Biological Dentistry and how such things as mercury fillings can have a serious negative affect on you're health, I began my search for qualified Dr. in the Portland, OR area. A few phone calls later, Dr. Matz at Arbor View Dental was the clear choice for me. He thoroughly explained and outlined a plan after my initial consultation. I have since had several procedures completed by Dr. Matz and I now feel I'm on the road to much better health. Thanks Dr Matz. Felt welcomed and understood when outlining my personal preferences and sensitivities. A calm, down-to-earth atmosphere. The one-on-one attention was great—never felt rushed. I loved the way the dentist explained the steps and checked in with me often. And I didn't feel a thing when I had to be numbed for the procedure. Highly recommend!

I have yet to meet Dr. Matz in person, but he spent a good deal of time gratis with me on the phone, advising me to rule out some other causes of my sinus condition before going ahead with pulling old, root-canalled teeth that I believe will turn out to be the cause. Very much appreciate the cautious, conservative approach here, and will be following up with him again later, if the problem is not resolved by the alternative means he suggested. Very glad to see how many others appreciate his service as well, in keeping with my own positive take at this time....

I made an inquiry on Dr Matz's website and the following evening he called me back and spent about 30minutes answering my questions!! That alone was incredible. He spent his personal time helping me. He was engaged and interested in my care. He answered each of my questions thoroughly and was extremely helpful. Dr. Matz has been my dentist since he took over the Division Street location many years ago. He provides personal care, not like those high production dentists that treat you like you are on a factory assembly line. Most recently, I had a dental implant. I had put it off for a full year due to fears of problems and pains that I had heard that many people have over this precise surgery. My fears were unfounded as the surgery and follow up installation was easy and mostly painless. I don't even notice that the implant is there now. I wish that I had not gone with the dental bridge years ago and went directly with the dental implant, as it would have saved me a lot of time and money.

I really love Dr Matz and his staff. Dr Matz always takes the best care of me when I have issues or not! I am comfortable there and they make sure of it. When I first started going there I needed alot of work. They offered me medication to help relieve my anxiety during my procedure. Now I do fine and I no longer have stress related to my dentist visits. I would refer anyone to this dentist! Thank you Dr Matz for all you do!

I have a very sensitive mouth and had not been to a dentist for at least five years before I found Dr. Matz. He and Rayna are a wonderful team and good with both adults and children. All three of my children (ages seven, nine, and eleven) are seen by Dr. Matz regularly. He has a calm, gentle presence that is very good with them. You might not know that all "ceramic" fillings are not created equally. Even if you stay away from mercury, some plastics in the ceramic blends are just as likely, in their own way, to cause a bad reaction in your mouth. The cheaper ones also wear down more quickly and don't adhere as well. You don't want to have to go right back in and get another filling, you want it right the first time. Dr. Matz has done his research and is careful to only use those materials that are shown to be of the highest quality and work best. After all, your fillings should ideally be in your mouth for a very long time, so you want someone who knows what they are doing and will provide excellent work. My daughter required fillings in her back molars, and he drilled the area with great precision and then set and ground down the fillings so beautifully, we can't see where the fillings are! I have every confidence that she won't have to think about those fillings for a long, long time, and she has had absolutely no sensitivity or irritation, as a result of having them in her mouth, unlike some friends of mine, who had their teeth filled with ceramic fillings by another dentist, and then had to have them removed again because of sensitivities. It's worth doing some of your own research on and making sure your dentist knows what they are doing. Or you can just make an appt with Dr. Matz. :) Dr. Matz also did some deep periodontal cleanings for me. They were necessary because I had not gone to the dentist in so long, (because of my other negative experiences with other dentists). He did an excellent job, and my gums are recovering well and have stopped receding. I do not have the constant swelling or irritation, or pain in my mouth that I did. He also did an excellent job with the anesthetic so that it wasn't painful. Rayna is a great person too. I actually enjoy calling their office and talking to her, to pay bills or schedule appts. She is super organized and makes any necessary paperwork simple, working with insurance companies and etc. She does an excellent, quick job when she does hygienic cleanings too. And of course the kids always get cool prizes to take home. :) The office is spotless and calm, and has a nice view from the fourth floor. Access is simple, at the I-205 exit at Division, and there is plenty of parking. Yes, I *did* go to all the trouble to rave on and on about my favorite dental team, here on Google! :) I invite you to give them a call and let them amaze you, too.

I have had nothing but great dental care from the team at Arbor View. I highly recommend them. I have had care ranging from cleaning to filling, crowns and so on. They can handle it all. They are clear communicators and well trained.
