Dr. Schmitt as well as his NP, nurses, nutritionist and complete office staff are the most professional, knowledgeable and kindest staff ever! Dr. Schmitt has given me a tool to be successful with my weight loss. I had my surgery September 8, 2021 and I’ve already lost 67 pounds abs more than 52 inches! If you are thinking about this surgery AWLS is the place you need to reach out to sooner than later!!

This is actually from Charles’s wife. My name is Patricia. My surgery was on October 14, 2021. My surgeon was Dr. Miles. I was very pleased with everything. Dr. Miles and his team are very professional and encouraging. I’m thankful that I was told about Alabama Weight Loss Surgery. This was my first surgery ever and they all made me feel at complete peace. I can’t thank them enough for giving me this tool.

I inquired with this company at the beginning of the year. I never had my consultation. The woman that answered the phone was very short & rude. Now today, 8 MONTHS later. I get a phone call from a DEBT collector for $255 from this office!!! What????? I called the office & they informed me I talked to Dr.miles on the phone. Which I certainly did NOT! They then said they would check the phone recordings from that day. Shortly after…she says they will remove it. What I want to know if how & why??? This is on my credit and why did I never know about this???? & I was actually thinking about going here instead of Mexico! Not now!

The scheduler/ receptionist Felicia was very rude this morning. She kept cutting me off very harshly when I attempted to re-schedule a consult visit. Her customer service is horrible, and she should not be allowed to speak with patients driving numerous miles and paying the type of money patients are spending, to be treated so rudely. Completely turned me away from even wanting to drive, although I'm sure the doctors are great. Be mindful who is working on your frontline, detouring prospective patients.

Dr. Schmitt did my VSG surgery 6 months ago and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I traveled 5.5 hours out of state to go to Alabama Weight Loss because my insurance doesn’t cover any type of weight loss surgery, and because AWS offers some pretty amazing options for their self pay patients I took the leap. 6 months and I’m already at my goal weight and maintaining, over 100 lbs gone!! If you’re thinking about surgery and looking for not only a wonderful surgeon but also a wonderful staff then this is your place!

My surgery was a complete success and recovery is going well too. Dr. Miles, NP, and Front office staff were awesome. He did an amazing job explaining surgery and postoperative treatment. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ There's one person in the office they could benefit tremendously from a few customer service and etiquette classes. Especially since she is the first point of contact when calling in. ⭐⭐ I highly recommend this office for all of your Weightloss Surgery needs.

Dr. Schmitt & his staff are amazing! I am 2 years post op and have lost over 128 lbs and maintaining. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner!

I had to make this post after reading the negative post. Dr Miles is not a scam! …..he may not have the best bed side manners. But he is a darn good doctor and does all that he can for his patient. His staff is awesome as well. They go above and beyond to help you with payment options to achieve your desires. I had surgery in 2003 and would yes him again if need be. Yes he is better than Mexico Doctor. Dr Miles enjoy horticulture experiences and may be homegrown but do underestimate his specialty expertise.

Today AWLS decided to make a post on FB in regards to a woman who tragically passed away during weight loss surgery in Mexico. You specifically stated you were better than any Mexican doctor or facility in Mexico and after I commented that I knew several people who've had weight loss surgery in Mexico and had a better experience than I had at your office you deleted the post and deleted me. I had surgery with your office and was constantly cancelled on for my follow up appointments (at least 4 times) to which I just didn't attempt to make another appointment. I had severe bruising of my throat and uvula to a point where I could not speak properly for over 6 months.

I never got past the phone consultation it was a 15 min conversation divided into 3 different phone segments. And everyone makes different excuses after wasting $250 on that I don’t trust them with thousands or even my life. I would rather pay a little more to make sure the surgery is done correct very sketchy my husband still think they are scams I would not recommend

I’ve had a wonderful experience from the office visits to the out patient surgery center. They rank #1 in my book. Everyone is very supportive and very friendly.

I had the gastric sleeve surgery yesterday and everything has been PERFECT! Had gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Miles in 2010. Still the best decision ever! He is a wonderful surgeon. He along with his staff and the nurses at St. Vincent’s took the best of care with me.

Dr Miles is great. 3.5 months out down 38 lbs since surgery day and 50 lbs since pre op diet.

The experience with Dr. Schmitt was perfect. While I have insurance it does not cover Bariatric procedures, but the cost and service has been ideal for me. I was my procedure on 12/12/19. I arrived on the Wednesday before my procedure. The nutrition class was well organized and very insightful. Only wish that could be offered after the consultation. I was able to return home on Friday after the procedure but do to a 5 hour drive I took my time and returned on Saturday. Stopping throughout my trip as directed by the doctor to avoid blood clots. I received a follow up call on Monday and the had a one week follow up call on Thursday. The procedure while major was not as painful as I prepared my mind for and I had minimal pain only taking pain meds once. I 100% recommend Alabama Weight Loss Surgery.

I don’t even know where to begin. I am from New Jersey and have insurance that did not cover bariatric surgery. I could not believe the high cost of the surgery in my area($35,000-$45,000) so I began doing research to find a less expensive alternative. Of course I found Las Vegas and Mexico and a few other potential horror stories. But I came across Alabama Weight Loss Surgery strictly by accident. What caught my eye was the fact that they offered the complication insurance. I had not seen that anywhere else, including the doctors where I live. Welcome to the best weight loss team and doctors around! There is something to be said about a place that will laugh, cry, and rejoice with you when you succeed. I couldn’t imagine trusting anyone else.

I made an appointment with the clinic, paid $300, lobby PACKED full of people, had driven 2.5 hours and they ran over an hour late to call me back to the room. Doctor came in, very nice, straight and to the point of why I am overweight, answered all of my questions. They drew blood to run labs to schedule surgery, I HAVE NEVER HEARD A WORD since January 15, 2019 over 5 weeks ago. They should be decent and refund my money as they didn't perform on their end, and I shouldn't have to chase down a doctor's office. Its truly like a cattle call in this establishment.

The staff at AWL was very knowledgeable and helpful to me during my process. I live 3 hours away from Birmingham but after doing all of my research found that Dr. Lee Schmitt was the only surgeon I wanted doing my gastric bypass. I could not be more pleased - and I didn't have any complications. I would recommend AWL to anyone who is seriously considering having weight loss surgery. Simply the best.

Wonderful staff and doctors. Dr Schmitt performed my surgery. My only regret is not having the surgery sooner. I met my goal at 6.5 months post op and have had no issues and lab work at 3 months post op and 6 months post op were both perfect!!

I am 5 days out from having a sleeve gastrectomy preformed by Dr. Schmitt. It went great & I believe I'm healing well (I have follow up in 2 days :) . The DAY before my surgery, while I was in waiting room for my pre-op Drs appt with Dr Schmitt, I get a phone call from St.Vincents East saying if I wanted to have my surgery (at 5am is when I had been told to be the and it was already 3:30pm) ,that I was gonna have to pay $7,000 or no surgery!!!! I came prepared to spend about $1,700 (which was my part after insurance). I couldn't believe this was happening!!! I had jumped through every hoop so insurance would pay & why in the heck is the hospital doing this to me HOURS before my surgery!!! My husband and I had already even paid for hotel for the night! I asked to talk with someone to figure this out. I went to the business office (or administration or whatever) and met with a very high up person (I didn't know or care who it was, as long as they could help!!). He said sorry our hands are tied. Once your insurance pays us we'll pay you back! This was not ok & we kept asking to get Ashley from Dr Schmitt's office in the room, but he kept saying that the hospital and Drs office are 2 TOTALLY different "branches of the medical tree" ...we insisted and, meanwhile, he got his BEST insurance genius (whatever) to assist us. Well, Ashley was called and immediately came to where we were. I HAVE NEVER ,IN MY LIFE, HAD SOMEONE NON-RELATED STICK UP FOR ME SO MUCH!!! Hospital kept calling sleeve surgery "a cosmetic procedure " . Well, SHE SURE let him know that I had done everything right and why was I getting singled out?? Needless to say , after she delt with them, all I had to do was sign (in blood..lol) a few papers saying if my insurance didn't pay I would be responsible. Couldn't that have happened in the first place?!?! To add the cherry to the top Dr Schmitt STAYED LATE TO MAKE SURE ALL MY PRE-SURGERY QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED!!!! I AM SO APPRECIATIVE FOR DR. SCHMITT, ASHLEY & WHOLE OFFICE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!

My name is Amanda "AJ" and I am a patient of Dr. Lee Schmitt of Alabama Surgical Weightloss. I had the sleeve (sleeve gastrectomy) 12/15/14 so I am one year + from surgery and I have lost 100lbs (from a 22/3x to a nice 9/L. I no longer have high blood pressure, knee pain, or sleep apnea and I have tons of energy! I had no complications or pain from surgery.
