I tried to figure out information on what I can do for my tooth with no insurance, and the Girl who answered was very rude. when asked questions she gave not so helpful short answers in a tone that seemed as though I was bugging her. Very confused on what I should do for my tooth this is weird.

I wouldn't be alive without the resources Community Health of the Black Hills provides. CHOTBH has made sure my medications are taken care of and that my conditions are properly managed as best as possible. S. Dary, E. Harding, and Dr. Voygle not only did an excellent job, they renewed my faith in humanity. -"Thank you!"

Haven't been seen yet but the young lady, Ashley, was very professional and polite with me over the phone. Due to our financial circumstance and what we need done for our daughter she was very understanding and gave me each detail as I asked for it with no attitude or hesitation. I didn't feel rushed off of the phone and I am looking forward to having treatment done at this facility.

With the intricacies of life outside the city making it hard to do any dental work... finding reasonable dental work is hard enough... this dental office?.. what a joke..!.. the one day I can make it into town, they are clearly not busy, with 2 clerks eating lunch on the job, in front of clients; neither of which had masks on, one of which was very moody and arrogant. Not to mention... not very good clerk material.( based on being able to relate to people) and I would venture to say personalities being snide and very rude. Man... they sure do express hating your job. ... but when people are in pain..?... i guess I'll continue to try to get in to see my dentist. Not my fault that people can't be happy at their job and its sad that others walk out offended because of it.

First off, the gals at the front counter of the dental clinic must have been having a bad day. Rude and had zero concern for my reasoning to visit their office. Secondly, I had to pay upfront to he seen and was told "You might not even been seen today". That's not how you run an office first of all, secondly, staff said office with kind caring and supportive people so those that do come needing services, don't feel as if they are substandard and not worth their time. I was told without any hesitation that going else where was an option. Needless to say, that is the route I will he going and will tell every single resident I can find about the deplorable service provided by its own tax dollars to its residents in Rapid City is terrible and to go elsewhere.

The doctors and staff at this clinic really don't listen to their patients. That's a best case scenario anyway. I went in here because I do not have health insurance. I was very clear about that to the staff at the front desk. I did not have insurance so anything above the flat fee they charge would need to be cleared with me first. When I saw the doctor I said the same thing. No insurance. To both of them it really seemed like it went in one ear and out the other. Ask me before you charge me. I go home and expect the scaling payment chart to be the amount I pay. 6 days later, surprise surprise, a bill for $207 from a company they outsourced the labs to. "LabCorp". I made it extremely clear to them that they needed to clear this first. If you're like me and can't afford insurance, try to get something like this recorded or on paper so they can't do this to you. They are literally scamming low-income patients because they know there isn't another option for them. Rude desk staff and non-caring doctors. If you have ANY other option, take it. If you don't have any other option, make sure you get it in writing or recorded that you will not be charged over and above their scaling chart. Absolutely scummy business practices.

If There was an option for zero stars that’s what I would give. The girl who answers the phone at the front desk in the dental office was so rude. I was told to come in as a walk in sat in my car for hours they said they would call when they went to lunch so I could leave for a bit she couldn’t even be bothered to do that. She is the main reason I will never even think about going back there if she’s aloud to be that awful can’t Imagine what the rest of the service would have been like . Will gladly pay double and go somewhere else ! Hope you try to fix this issue and get someone else that actually enjoys people at that desk. I’m sure it would make a world of difference in how people feel about this place .

I use to come here years ago, I kept telling my symptoms, and she just kept reccomending vitamin d... now that I have moved and have better care I have learned they completely ignored my hypertension that I could have been treating for years, and the symptoms I had concerns about were early signs of an autoimmune disease I could have been treating and have a better quality life by now. My 20s would have been completely different! They did not run any of the basic blood work . Just vitamin d and anxiety pills.

Very disappointed in this place!!! I called for an appointment the week before due to I had a severe toothache and needed to be seen. Went in for my appointment and the front desk lady was nice but after I checked in and sat down the dental assistant came out and treated me as though I was a drug addict looking for narcotics. And proceeded to tell me I could go home and take ibuprofen over the counter. I hadn’t even seen the dentist yet no xrays were taken but felt not only was I being treated like a drug addict but felt as though she diagnosed me there at the front desk. There was no bedside manner at all just plain rude. Would not recommend to anyone due to the way I was treated.

I have health insurance - I have had TERRIBLE experience with health care providers here, I truly believe that they do not care about most of their patients at this clinic! They never call back and never follow up after labs, amongst other bad practices. I have had 2 different PA's leave without notifying me in about a years time: Zopp & Harding, both left with no prior notification which lead me to have to be without my autoimmune medications for lengthy periods of time until I could establish new care. And their billing department has yet to return 4 calls I have left in the last 2 months. Rapid City needs another clinic for low income folks so they can have a choice as to who they want ignoring their health problems... I feel like the "younger" doctors and PA's just work here to gain experience until they can move on to something "better".

From the front desk to the so called doctor they’re rude, uncaring & treat you like an object in a factory. They take poor folks money, tell ya your fine and boot you out the door ASAP. They almost killed my husband few years ago. Went in several times kept telling him the flu. Umm the flu doesn’t last for 3 months. Ended up he had spinal meningitis. You’re better off searching the web for answers as these people couldn’t care less.

Well, this doctors office is good when you’re poor and need things to be cheaper... And there are some great doctors here, I’m talking about you Christine Carey, (and she has an AMAZING nurse! ❤️)... but the pharmacy is not worth it! I called my prescriptions in to the new automated system, (I call in my mother’s and my father’s as well as mine) and it got my prescription just fine, but I had to do my mothers over and over and over again in order to get the correct last name on the prescription. And that’s confusing to me because why would you have the same verification number for multiple patients? Unless that was just an error in the system, and in both cases that needs to be fixed immediately because this is dangerous!!! And then I did my father’s prescriptions and it wouldn’t even take them, so I had to speak to the actual pharmacist for his.And then fast forward to the next day when we try to get all of these prescriptions... my prescription, which the automated system did not have a problem with and it “went through perfectly fine” THEY SAID THEY WEREN’T even called in in the first place!! And also half of my mothers prescription was not even called in, supposedly. And my dad‘s prescription went through just fine, because I talked to an actual pharmacist. I was super excited about this new automated system, because commonly when I call the actual pharmacists they are insanely rude and condescending. And I am not OK with that. So, in summary you guys need to do better. You are messing with peoples lives. You are messing with medication that people desperately need to survive! You are a PHARMACY. DO BETTER!

I generally tend to leave reviews of places that we love.... Not the case for this review. The nursing staff and doctors have always been amazing to my children... However the clerical/office staff generally cannot communicate what needs to be communicated. And they tend to never be accountable. They never know why something was or was not said or done. Definitely need training in patient care.

The provider I saw was incredibly demeaning and rude. She told me I was broken and needed to be fixed, as well as, a number of other alarming and abusive statements. A doctor should never tell a patient they are broken or that they need to be fixed. We are not objects we are people and people are not broken! I've since asked to be switched to another provider and I'm hoping my next experience is better. I want to become healthy but not at the cost of my mental health and dignity.

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Miah - I am so sorry you had such a poor experience with your first provider. Please let us know how your second experience goes and if it's any better. You are absolutely right, all patients should be treated with dignity. Feel free to give us a call to elaborate and allow us to follow-up as appropriate.

I have several reasons to give this one star review. I showed up to an appointment about 3 months ago to find that my doctor had injured his wrist playing golf and was unable to see me. We live in Spearfish. They didn't tell us until we got there. After arriving and explaining that we had drove a long way to see him, they said that maybe they could get me in. Apparently he was in the office. If I had to guess, they overbooked because a doctor had stopped practicing there (Dr. Baxter) The second reason is pretty similar to the first. They called me before they closed at about 5pm letting me know that the doctor had injured his wrist, again, and I wouldn't be able to be seen the next day at 11am. Finally, today. I forgot I had an appointment and didn't show up. I called them about an hour after my appointment to reschedule. Their policy on no show appointments is that to be seen again after, you need to show up at 7:45 AM and sit all day until they have time to see you. You need to do a walk-in appointment to re-establish care. I've seen people waiting for a walk-in at 3pm some days. This policy is for if you don't show up, or if you call to cancel less than 24 hours prior. They have canceled appointments with me less than 24 hours prior at least 3 times. Basically, their scheduling department is hypocritical and their business practices are abysmal. If they had competition I would go literally anywhere else. They book their appointments 6-8 months in advance at a time. They are literally so booked that they have no problem mis-treating their clients. tl:dr, They will cancel your appointments regularly, and if you miss a single one they cease service to you.

Most unprofessional rude place ever. We waited 2 months for an appointment and they cancelled when we walked in the door, claimingthe one and only dr went home sick but there was a room full of people waitingto see the dr. Then the receptionist wouldn't give us a new appointment for another 4 months.

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Apologies! But it's true, even docs get sick sadly. We'll try our hardest to see if we can get you in earlier. But unfortunately, it was a rather sudden and unplanned for illness that took out our dentist.

Sonny - I'm sorry you had such a long wait. I'm guessing you came in as a walk-in in our Dental Clinic? We try to fit in as many walk-in patients as we can, but it's no guarantee. It all depends on who shows up, how many staff we have, and what treatments we end up doing on those that are seen.

Literally just had the worst experience here today with one of the dentists, Mr. Thomas Benjamin. My long story starts with me being a walk in patient back in November. I sat for 6 hours to be seen, in that time I witnessed them cancel two different scheduled appointments for OTHER people. One man was blind, the other way a woman who had rode the bus from Spearfish (an hour drive) they cancelled both of their appointments with the client standing right in front of them. By the time I got in to be seen, the dentist was already busy eating Little Caesars and drinking Mountain Dew, I had some x-rays and he wrote me a script for antibiotics. I don't think I needed the antibiotics, but whatever, I took the script and an appointment for an extraction (3 months down the road). Fast forward 3 months to today (Feb 7), I went in for an extraction, paid my copay and waited for my appointment. The dentist refused to do the work, he didn't have time or couldn't do it or didn't want to do it for whatever reason. But yet wanted to keep half my money for an "exam" even though I already had one of those 3 months prior. He wanted to schedule me again for July, I demanded a full refund. His assistant, Nikki, who was very nice and professional unlike the dentist even said that I was scheduled for an extraction. By the end of the ordeal she had tears in her eyes, I'm guessing the dentist yelled at her for siding with me, the patient. Anyway, this dentist DID give me my money back (with his hand trembling), he said to never come back. he said have a nice life, he said "you think you deserve treatment for what you're paying" and "you think you can push your way in here and get what you want" no, I had an appointment. He was the most unprofessional, rude, and incompetent medical provider I have ever come across. I feel bad for the other low income, or people without insurance that get pushed away, or get discriminated against because they're poor or don't have insurance. If you have insurance I would go elsewhere. If this is your only option, like it was for me, then I feel for you. I do understand that they are understaffed or overbooked, that is no excuse to treat people the way they treated me.

Tried to make an appt today with Dr. Garry with a referral from our primary care physician. Was very condescendingly told by “Janice” that my referral was not enough, we’d need to jump through hoops to prove ourselves worthy, and oh, by the way, it’ll be a four month wait anyway. Not what you want to hear when trying to book a behavioral therapy appt for your eight year old son that’s struggling (and his family is at a loss to make things better for him). Wasn’t asked about our particular situation, our name, or even the authorization number for our referral. Absolutely zero compassion, just smugness. I can’t speak to the care that Dr. Garry may or may not provide, but good luck getting patients when your receptionist is turning legitimate ones away. I’ll have nothing to do with this facility again.

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
I'm sorry that you had such a poor experience and I'd be happy to visit with you further if you'd like to give me a call at 721-8939. Unfortunately, as you note with a four month wait for a visit, the need for behavioral health care in our community outstrips our resources, so we do look for referrals from primary care physicians to help us triage and schedule patients into see Dr. Garry. And it is frustrating.

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Sorry, Gunnar. But, yes, we do close the clinic on Thanksgiving and the day after to allow our staff to be with their friends and families over the holiday. Just like after our clinic closes in the evening and on weekends, we have a provider on-call 24/7 and, like other outpatient clinics, will refer to the fine folks in the emergency room who are staffed and open every hour of the day, every day of the year.

I've been going to community health center for years, on and off, and have always had a good experience. Yesterday I went there for a blood draw that the doctor scheduled for me months ago, that was part of a program I had qualified for months ago that made it no cost to me because I had no income, and I was told if I didn't have $15, I would have to come back when I did. I tried to explain that I went through this treatment at no cost and that this test was part of it, but she said told me she updated my paperwork and now I would have to pay $15 or come back when I had it. When I started the treatment I was homeless and had no income. Now I'm in public housing and have no income. So what makes her think I can afford $15 now? She had no compassion, just a condescending remark when I came back from borrowing the $15. Good job kicking someone when their down...

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Good morning! Thanks for sharing your concerns. I'm glad you've had years of good experience before yesterday. I'm sorry that you felt our staff was condescending to you - we strive to treat every one who comes through our doors with respect. We do have sliding scale programs to provide extremely discounted care for folks with low incomes, including a $15 flat fee, and no charges for individuals that qualify for our Healthcare for the Homeless program.

Today I am very very disappointed in my experience at the dental department. I was over the 1st week of May 2018 7 am. Suffering from wisdom teeth. I wait all the day... Then 4 pm they take me inside to check up. And the doctor told me - "don't worry about pain you have to take out your teeth." Then they make my schedule 12 July (12noon) 2018. 12 July I was over there but very rude staff she told me my schedule is not in computer. And they gave me another schedule 24 July 2018 morning 8am. Again I was there. Again same story. My appointment is not there. I waiting all most 2 and half months with my pain. I returned with zero result. Horrible "People are going these places because they can't afford to go another place." Thank you very much

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Thanks for sharing your concerns. I'd certainly love to visit with you privately about them. Some of our patients have scheduled appointments and some come in as walk-in appointments. We try very hard to see all of the walk-in visits that show up, but unfortunately, we can't promise that will get to every one that waits. It really depends on how many scheduled visits do not show up, what sort of treatment we provide to the patients that are here, and how many staff we have available from one day to the next.

Dr. Baxter, one of the dentists, performed a special laser surgery on me because I could not afford to get it done. I have five children and a grandchild and recently became single so finances are very difficult. I needed something removed from my tongue. It was causing me a lot of issues because it would get in the way and I would constantly bite this lump on my tongue causing me a lot of pain and bleeding. Dr. Baxter offered to use a special laser to remove it rather than typical surgery of cutting it out and stitching it up. It was painless and easy and quick. There was Zero bleeding. The healing was so much easier and quicker than I could have imagined. This was sooooo much better than the other method of removal. Now I have no problems and it has improved my ability to eat and talk normally. This laser surgery should be used as much as possible in place of the old method which is just out of date. I hope they continue to implement this new age laser option much more. Thank you!!

Definitely DO NOT GO to this place if you want dental work done. You have to be the first person of 3 to get service, and when you walk in after being there at 6 a.m. the rude receptionist will tell you with an attitude that they are only servicing 2 people today, even though you're the 3rd (which they normally do). Not only did I waste gas, I took a day off from work; money that I will never get back. If you guys are servicing the community, please do it in a more informative, willing and manerable way. Not having a sign up is very inconvenient to people. People are going there because they cannot afford to go somewhere else, and having them waste gas and money, just to tell them that they cannot be serviced because only 2 people can be when it's usually 3 is ridiculous. Time and money are of essence. I drove from so damn far too! And was there at 6 a.m..

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Thanks Kyle for the feedback. Our walk-in service is always a challenge for us because it can vary from day to day who shows up and what we're able to handle based on the needs of our patients and our staffing availability. We'll keep working to improve how we do it though.

Receptionist Susana was a great big bag of d***s throughout the entire paperwork process. Cut me off every chance she got, talked over me, outright told me that she didn't care what was going on because I'd just have to repeat it to the nurse; even though I was trying to tell her that I was having a medical issue AS WELL as needed to speak to their counselor about getting a psychiatric medication refilled. She was, as I told her to her face, interminably rude about the whole event. She was calloused, exhibited zero compassion or professionalism and frankly, seemed quite bit stupid about her job. For example, she understood that if I have dependents on my tax return, it can affect my bill, and that even if I do have children but ones which are not attached to my taxes it cannot affect my bill; she did not understand that if my wife and I file taxes separately, her income cannot affect my bill - particularly at a facility which receives tax dollars. Speaking of my wife, that might be the best part of this - after I had told her she was being rude, she looked right at me and said "so are you separated or single" in such a way that made it clear that she thought I couldn't possibly be married. Here's how that conversation went: "What's your name?" "Susana." "Well Susana, you have been interminably rude throughout this entire conversation." "I'm sorry you feel that way. So are you separated or single?" "Uh... Wow. Okay. I'm married, thanks." "What's her income?" "We file separately." "That doesn't matter. It affects your payment plan." "Um... No, it doesn't. Her income cannot affect my payments on something if our incomes are not tied together at a federal level unless I want it to." "That's not true." "Well it is, and I'm not giving you that information. It's not my income and I don't have the right to give it out." "K." She was absolutely the worst part of this experience, but unfortunately she was so bad that it warranted a 1 star review. Of course, this is review is an exercise in futility. This facility receives tax funding and caters mostly to the very poor and is therefore not adherent to the ideology of customer satisfaction. What I think of her behavior amounts to very little, so long as the state seems to think things are in order. But, I figured I might as well exercise my right to futility and leave a review for this vile little Asian - not to pick on her race, but if you get called by a short, fat Asian lady know that your bad day needing a doctor visit is about to get worse - woman whom has no right to sit and antagonize people in pain. The nurse and the doctor and phlebotomist were very friendly - but their sweetness just couldn't get rid of the saltiness Susana instilled in me. Oh, and the pharmacy staff were just standing around when I went to pick up my script. I'd actually left and got halfway across town to my normal pharmacy before I remembered they'd sent it to their in-house. So... Probably 20, 25 minutes passed since she wrote it, sent it, did my paperwork and bloodwork, I left and came back? Told me it'd be another 20 minutes. This whole trip was a joke. Response to owner: I absolutely did! Your nurse didn't even respond and when Dr. Slobenic(sp?) asked if what she could do for me my instant response was "Your receptionist Susana is a complete and utter ******!" And her response was "Okay well moving on from that, what are you here to see us for today?" Didn't skip a beat, so I'm sure it's not the first complaint Susana has had.

I've never had an issue at the doctor's office. The staff are friendly and helpful and I don't wait long before I'm seen. And my doctor is fantastic!

I first came to Rcchc about a year ago. I made an appointment with the main building, which I unfortunately didn't show up to. I'm very grateful they gave me a second chance, as I needed medication for my epilepsy. Every time I've come in since then for my medication, the staff has always been very friendly and competent. Thank you for everything you do!

Very disapointed in my experience at the dental facility. When I called Monday to make an appointment I was told I would have to qualify for an appointment and that if I did they were a month out. I was also told they weren't taking walk ins so I waited till Tuesday I got there early like I was told. At 7:30 a sign was put on the door morning meeting open at 9. At 9 they opened the doors and I'm pretty sure I was cut in line since it's a big waiting room we all came from. We are told to sign the clipboard and that only 6 walk ins are being taken. I was number 8 in line. The girl at counter walked away before I could say something but here I am with a swollen face and I had to go home after waiting for over 2 hours. The thing is there was a lot more than 6 people waiting when the sign was put up on the door. It would have taken a couple of minutes for someone to bring the clipboard out and let us sign in. That way we would have not wasted the time if we knew we weren't going to be seen. Also maybe have a clipboard that you sign in on as you walk in as to not have anyone cut in line. I'm sure you all do very good work, but today just wasn't my day.

Thanks Katie. I'm sorry you were disappointed in your care today - our walk-in clinic is one of our biggest challenges, given the financial realities we face in providing discounted care. We make every effort to see every one who comes in, but some days we simply can't. Today, unfortunately, we're short-staffed and that makes it even tougher. I know that doesn't make it any easier for you, but know that we continue to try and improve in this regard. And we appreciate your feedback.

First time here, got there early and was able to be seen in dental by 820ish am and was done by 850 am. The staff was amazing and nice.

I took my granddaughter there because she had a toothache. After arriving an hour early and waiting along with several others, we were told they could only take 1 person. Maybe a sign on the door letting people know how many people can be seen would be helpful. The rudeness of the dental receptionist didn't help. When you are working with people have a little compassion.

Shelley - I'm sorry you had such a poor experience. Feel free to call me at 721-8813 with greater details about your concerns , as we certainly expect all of our staff to treat all of our guests with compassion, no matter how frustrated they may be. I'm sorry we weren't able to see your granddaughter. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee how many walk-in patients we can see in a day. We do have a sign posted that says just that. It depends a lot on how many show up in a day, the complexity of the cases we do see, and the number of staff available. So we try our best to let patients know if and when we don't think we'll be able to see them that same day.

The staff here are incompetent. I scheduled an appointment and wrote it down so I wouldn't forget what time it was. When I got there, they said I missed it and wouldn't allow me to reschedule. They said I would have to call the following morning and request a same-day appointment. Well the next morning I did call for a same-day appointment and the same people told me they don't do same-day appointments for what I needed to be seen for.

They have always been professional and helpful to me. I have received excellent care-my doctor wouldn't just give up on me even though I didn't have money for expensive tests. She kept digging until we found out what was wrong-5 years of doctors hadn't bothered before her. These people care about their patients! Wait times are usually good and appointments aren't that hard to get, but you have to remember that they serve a lot of people and are doing their best. I thought that a place like this would be horrible, but I've had very good experiences with them.

Well when I went a couple months back because of how sick I always was the doctor took my blood. It came back that I had hypothyroidism. Not even a week later I went to the er and my tests came back normal. Evidently not the best place to go for labs. But where else can u go when u have no money?

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Thanks for sharing your feedback! Obviously we can't really respond to anything of a patient nature online due to patient confidentiality concerns, but if any patient had questions or concerns about their care or lab results, I'd recommend they talk with their provider directly. Feel free to call the clinic at (605) 721-8939!

I just waited on hold for an hour and 10 min until they closed with only one person waiting ahead of me, this is the second time this has happened. I just gave up trying to get ahold of someone. I guess I'll be going somewhere else from now on.

Reply from Community Health Center of the Black Hills
Justine - I'm sorry you had such a long wait. Looking through our phone records from yesterday though, the longest call we had yesterday was 8 minutes - which is still a long wait, without a doubt. Were you calling our main line at (605) 721-8939? I'd like to be sure we don't have any other phone issues going on.

The oncall provider told me to wait it out and deal with my pain until i could be seen more than 24 hrs later! I have never in my life been treated so poorly! I will be finding out how to file a complaint against Kimberly G. Very unprofessional and very obvious that she just wants all of my money to go to them and was clearly not concerned about what was going to be most helpful to me as her patient! I will be switching doctors and i would strongly suggest that you all do to. Don't expect them to care about your health. They just want whatever money they can get.

Kc - I'm sorry to hear and hope you're doing better. Feel free to call and let us know the specifics of your concern so that we can take a look at the specifics of your care.

Horrible!! I wasnt feeling good at all so I was counting on a professionals help and all the "doctor" Ashley did was make me feel even shittier. They will not let me move my copay over to a real doctor as well and it was my last one. It's a good thing Im feeling better because this place would be guilty of medical malpractice!!! Legal action should be pursued against these people! No one should ever have to go through this when they are sick needing REAL medical help and evaluation. You people are truly disgusting!!!

I have received nothing but excellent care from the staff here, they are kind, patient, and do their best to be flexible. They fit my budget which is hard to find! If you go there with a positive attitude and treat the staff with respect it is reciprocated. I am always comfortable when I go here and confident that the staff will do their best to make sure I am taken care of.

TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. I would give a negative star if possible. Nobody is friendly when you go. You have to wait 15 minutes to get through when calling just to schedule an appointment, AND the doctors there are the worst EVER. They really don't know what they're doing. I'm pretty sure they got their licenses from a "Cracker Jacks" box.
