The dentist was one of the best I’ve had ever!! He was so good I didn’t even feel the numbing shots ☹️??? Very professional but not judge mental Even though I didn’t have dental insurance they made me feel comfortable and like a regular human being!! I would definitely go back don’t wanna work with anyone else!!

Visited for the first time today, and it was the most thorough cleaning I’ve had in years. My teeth feel so sparkly! And because fall break, I called ahead to ensure I could bring my 5 year old with me. Not only were they accommodating, but they allowed her in the exam room with me, listened to all her stories, and even gave her a kid’s toothbrush and toys when we left. Truly grateful to have found this place.

I enjoyed my experience at Kailua Dental care. Not only is Kailua Dental care high tech and well equipped, but most importantly, the staff was friendly and helpful. And they took me at the last minute, since my tooth crown had just broken. I enjoyed the dentist, Dr. Ivan Colon, who worked on me. He is a tooth-artist, and did a fabulous job to fix the broken crown which was in the front, as well as to tweak some previous dental work from 40 years ago. I'm glad my crown broke, for now my smile is better than before. I'm not biased, but Dr. Colon is my son. ;-) HA!

They are really nice and professional. Alex helped me today and she helped put me at ease (I get anxiety at the dentists). My teeth were cleaned very well, and the doctor who spoke with me about my x-rays was also great. Facility is very clean, and I felt safe- they took covid precautions seriously and I highly recommend them.

Prior to making my initial appointment with Kailua Dental Care, the last time I saw a dentist was about five years ago! Once I moved here, finding a dentist was not one of my priorities; however, I just finished my second appointment and plan to continue choosing Kailua Dental Care. I’ve recommended this establishment to friends who were also in a similar position as I was and they only had great things to say about their experiences including interacting with all employees. I feel like Kailua Dental Care goes above and beyond to treat me like a part of their ʻohana and make building rapport with new patients one of their values. As their website states, “... there’s always a reason to smile!” and their staff have made me smile since the first time I walked into their office. Mahalo piha ?? I cannot day enough good things about Kailua Dental. My son broke both of his front teeth accidentally on a Sunday. Kailua Dental welcomed us right away, assessed him and came up with a treatment plan. They were kind, caring and attentive. We appreciate them and the skilled dental care they provided to a very upset mother and son.

They are extremely professional, I have been to many dentist having to get work done. They made me feel comfortable and informed me about everything I may be feeling depending upon nerve sensitivity. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an amazing dentist, and as an added bonus they also offer payment plans even if your uninsured.

My family and I have been coming to Kailua Dental Care for the past 20 years and they continue to excel. I was just there for my routine dental cleaning visit and couldn’t feel safer in these times of pandemic; all staff was wearing masks, my hygienist also wearing a clear face shield, an air purifier in the entrance room, and a large plexiglass divider on the front desk! You’ll also get your temperature taken as you check in. Kudos to Dr Sonson and his team!

First time here; inquired about implants. Staff and Dr are excellent, all worked to take care of me, expeditiously. Here it is a few days later; had a broken off tooth extracted. It was great; I felt nothing and Dr Sonson is marvelous, and so are the dental assistants. Can't wait to get going on the implants.

Dr. Sonson is a miracle worker magic man with teeth!!! I'm a 69 yr old lady who's managed to ruin my teeth on so many ways! Living outer islands with sketchy dental work did not help...Sonson is putting me back together again...And putting up with my old lady details and rants!!! He's a true blessing to Kailua so we don't have to go to Honolulu ?️?? MAHALO Dr. Sonson + Sweet Caring Staff!!!

Best dentist I have had. Top #1 in my book. When my son needed major work and I was on workers compensation pay they worked with me and helped set a payment plan that worked with me. The staff are great and very friend. I want to thank them all so much.

My last appointment was very upsetting. I was seen by Dr. Erik Dunkelberger. As soon as he entered the room, he came off as very rude, self centered even. He sat down and we had a brief small talk conversation, like I do with most of my doctors, and his responses made me feel as if I was inferior to him. He gave off this vibe and tone of "Seriously? Your life is that sad? You're a joke!" Never before has a doctor talked to me with such bad bedside manner. After he inspected my teeth, we talked about what I wanted to do regarding my dental situation, and he sounded annoyed with the choices I wanted to pursue. My interaction with him has me doubting that I will be returning here for my dental needs. This place (can) be good because the assistants are great. As long as Dr. Dunkelberger is not your dentist.

I actually don't mind the Dentist anymore ! Dr. Dunkelberger is excellent ! He always takes the time needed to do a great job ! I have never written a review on a Dental office before, but I really appreciate his excellent work. He fixed a small chip in my front tooth and it looks fantastic ! He is always, gentle, polite and patient with my nerves !! LOL His work has been very good each time i have gone. The front desk is friendly, helpful and polite... Both dental assistants I have had there have been very sweet and they don't make you feel uncomfortable... I really appreciate that ! Thank you all ! We sure appreciate you !!

The dentist do a good job, but their booking management and reception desk are a disaster. I spent $3,000 out of pocket and had Insurance cover $1,000 for invisalign orthodontic treatments. I paid half upfront before treatment and made regular monthly payments to make sure I my account was settled by the time the 4-month treatment was finished. I had to remind the the staff two or three times that I had not seen a claim submitted to my insurance even after treatment had started. It wasn't until after I had finished treatment and transitioned to permanent retainers that the claim was submitted and approved. Now they are receiving the insurance money every 3 months. Despite having my portion of the treatment paid off I have started receiving collection notices in the mail for the remaining balance. I went to discuss the matter with their bookkeeper, who agreed it should not have been sent to collections since regular payments were being made by insurance. However they automatically send outstanding balances to collection agencies if they haven't received payment within 60 days. Even though It was their fault for not getting the insurance money on time, they are damaging my credit and giving me unnecessary phone calls and collection mail. I sorted this out once already 3 months ago and now it's happening again. I've also witnessed people who show up for a major root canal appointment only to find out the receptionist never blocked the time off in their schedule. The man took off work to come there and even had a reminder card with the correct date and time filled in. My husband and I had regular cleanings booked and were canceled last minute because they did not schedule enough hygienists. That was the last straw for me. We're finding a new dental office that isn't managed by clowns.

Due to a suspiciously outrageous diagnosis I received from Dr. Howard Carrico (also in Kailua) that would cost me $2000, I decided to have a second opinion from Dr. Erik Dunkelberger at Kailua Dental Care. After a comprehensive examination, Dr. Dunkelberger informed me that I had excellent dental hygiene and no dental work was needed on the contrary. What a relief! Additionally, Dr. Dunkelberger demonstrated great attention to detail as he customized the mouthguard according to my bite so that it would fit as comfortably as possible. I felt cared for and left the office with complete satisfaction.

The front staff was polite and very pleasant. The dentist and the assistants were concerned about my comfort, well-being, as well as my teeth.

These guys are great. Professional quality dental work, top notch.

I am now a devoted client of Kailua Dental... I have had two procedures done - a year apart, and in both instances, I was deeply impressed by the teams' efficiency, high level of professionalism, and kind friendly spirit... When I lost a crucial filling a few days ago - they offered me an appointment the very same day... I am in my seventies - and go back a ways, but going to the dentist has never been such a pleasant experience as it is with these folks. I don't have the words to give them the praise they deserve... Thank you Kailua Dental.

Kailua Dental Care has always been awesome - I've been going for years, and Dr. Erik Dunkelberger is now my favorite dentist I've ever been to. I went in dreading my procedure, but he put me at ease and gave me professional insights that I appreciated so much. He was careful and very communicative as he worked on me, made sure I felt no pain, and was impressively knowledgeable. You could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. Everything has gone better than expected since my dental work was done. I'd recommend very highly.
