Dr. Thomas J. Lokensgard

I was a regular patient here until some actual dental work was needed and things went south. A simple bottom bridge replacement (upon the dentist’s urging) turned into months of agony in my jaw and the teeth above it (details of sketchy procedure in last paragraph) while having to live on Advil around the clock to sleep and work, along with no answers as to why from the dentist except that it must be “decay” on the tooth above. Huh? No other dentist or endodontist could subsequently find decay. I spent nearly $10,000 trying to find answers and attempted solutions from other dentists after the appointment. I’ll be spending close to another $10,000 now on a a sinus lift and implant after finally having no option but to extract the upper back tooth to alleviate the pain and inability to eat on that side. Not to mention the amount of grief from going through this. I requested a refund of the $4300 they had charged me for the visit that led to the issues or even a portion of it to help pay for the mounting dentist bills. They refused and pointed to a composite I had in that upper region which caused some irritation several years prior that was easily remedied at that time with a quick bite adjustment. It had not caused me any issues whatsoever since then. They used it as an excuse to not take responsibility for what happened at my bridge appointment. (Again, went into the bridge appointment completely pain-free and came out of it in long-lasting agony.) During the bridge appointment, Dr Lokensgard’s assistant hurriedly and unexpectedly forced my mouth open to put a dam in it since I couldn’t get my novocained mouth around it. I heard a startling “crack” sound when she did it, and I gasped in shock but could still move my mouth and was too novocained up to feel anything. He left her to finish his work, and she did some shaving on the teeth above for some reason, including the upper back tooth in question. I can’t say definitively which one of those two occurrences caused it, but the agony began when the novocaine wore off, never went away for months and still can only eat on my other side to this day a year later. The kicker was hearing from another dentist that the actual bottom bridge work he did was shoddy and had a gap that shouldn’t be there. I wish I had never let them do the work. My bad. Please look elsewhere - there’s other holistic dentist offices in the area who’ll take responsibility for their work.

The worst experience I’ve ever had going to the Dentist. I wish I could give it zero stars. They are clearly all about money and do not care about their patients well being.

The best experience I’ve ever had going to the Dentist. I’m so thankful to finally have someone I can trust. You can feel that the staff genuinely care about you. Unfortunately, there are many Dentist that advertise as being “biological, etc,” which is not always the case! Dr. Lokensgard is the REAL deal!

I was initially excited when a friend referred this dentist to me. She had a lot of lovely things to say about Dr Thom and I admit that the two times I met him, he seemed like a thoughtful dentist. Unfortunately, my bad experience was with Dr Warren and because of her, I will not be returning. I had a wonderful hygienist but when I met with Dr Warren initially, she promised to provide me with several options and asked me to reschedule at a later date to provide her more time to research the information. I was happy to do this since I needed a lot of work in my mouth. I appreciated the fact that she was willing to do this so didn’t mind returning. The date for my follow-up appointment came and when I met with Dr Warren, it was as if she had never seen me. There were no plans or options. Nothing. In fact, she began to ask the exact same questions she asked me initially. I began to get annoyed because she asked questions that I found impossible to answer eg “what type of work do you want done?” I really didn’t know which is why she was supposed to provide me with options. She then asked me: “I sense you are annoyed at this moment?” That took me aback. I didn’t respond but if I had I would have said “yes, I am very annoyed. I took off of work, drove 2.5 hours, and you didn’t deliver on what you promised.” Everything she told me she could have covered in the initial visit. Her attitude was dismissive and condescending. I would not feel comfortable letting her do work. Even though I was looking for a holistic dentist, I will forego returning to this office. I’ve seen a lot of dentist but will say this one was the most disappointing.

We LOVE Dr.Thom! You will not find anyone more compassionate and caring! He absolutely saved my life! I was also thrilled to learn about the addition of the pediatric dentist! I am very critical when it comes to the care of my children. I can tell you I was more than impressed with her! My child has major dental trauma. Dr.Nixon was not only able to comfort my child but extract a tooth WITHOUT gas!! That is what I call a win! Dr.Thom is very educated on REAL medicine! That is something hard to come by these days! We appreciate the love and care he puts into his skill!

This was my first time going to Dr Lokensgard office (Center for Holistic dentistry) and my LAST! Going to the dentist during a pandemic you want to feel comfortable and reassured that the office is doing all they can to keep everyone safe. However, walking into the office my first inpretion was bad and it only got worse. The receptionist and no one else in the front of the office where wearing face masks. Only myself, one other patient, and two hygienists where wearing a mask in the whole office ( that I seen). In the reception aria there was no hand sanitizer to use and only one sign saying that if you cough you "may" be asked to wear a mask or cover your mouth. After a few minutes I decided I didn't feel comfortable and went to the front desk to tell them I was going to have to cancel my appointment. I told the receptionist in these words " I am going to have to cancel my appointment because of the face mask situation". She immediately cut me off and said "the face mask ruling for the county was lifted last Friday and so they did not need to wear them". I told here that I understood that however I did not feel comfortable having my teeth done as I had medical problems as did my family and didn't want to take the chance of being exposed. I did not feel respected for my views the way I was treated. If a medical office dose not care to wear masks during a pandemic it makes you question how seriously they take the pandemic and cleanliness. If you want a safe place to get your teeth done during a pandemic don't go here!

Cannot recommend this place enough - I’ve had a very long dental history and this is the only place I’ve ever been to that I look forward to going. The staff are so kind and knowledgeable, and truly have their patients’ best interest in mind. So grateful to have found this practice.

Just walked into this holistic dental office I was told that masks are optional and the ionizer in the waiting room kills bacteria. I pointed out that Covid was a virus and was told oh yes, it kills that too. Waiting room was getting most people not wearing masks in there. I'm very disappointed that a dental office of all places was not taking more precautions. I walked out of the waiting room as i did not feel too confident that this office is doing what i think it should with what is happening during this pandemic. I would have given a much higher review but I am now no longer a patient and I will look for a dentist that cares more about the spread of Covid virus! If you are a no masker then I'm sure you won't care but I am not and I do care! When I mentioned this on Facebook everyone who responded said their dentists were taking precautions and no other dentist seemed to be having patients waiting in waiting rooms with no masks. Mandate says masks should be worn in public places!

Dr. Lokensgard is incredible! He has become a trusted friend of our family. I know he isn't looking to sell me some dental work and will give it to me straight. He walked me through healing 4 cavities in 2 of my kids this last year! No drills, no scare tactics. He laid it all out, knew I would put the work in and...healthy teeth! If you are looking for a dentist who practices holistically and is reputable in the industry, look no further. People travel from all over the world for an appointment...

SOOO thankful for Dr Lokensgard and his team. They are naturally minded, extremely knowledgeable and a huge asset for our community. My husband recently had some work done and I was pleased with the docs honesty about what he actually needed to have done. I trust them and have referred over many of my friends as a result! We really have first hand experience of a dentistry practice that cares deeply for the health and wellness of its clients in Holistic Biological Dentistry! The staff has always bent over backwards to make sure that our kids are comfortable with the procedures that they’re undergoing and fully educated on why and what to expect. Also they have always been very generous as well as fair in their pricing and lengths they have gone to help us navigate our insurance... if it sounds like a glowing review, then I’ve understated my satisfaction!!!

Amazing! Dr lokensguard and Eve were magical! Super knowledgeable about holistic living! Shaved $8k off of a treatment plan I received from another high end dentist in cool springs. NEVER going to another dentist! Dr Lokensguard is it for my family!

I am so happy to find a holistic dentist in network! I went in for a routine teeth cleaning and really enjoyed it. The office is beautiful and clean. The staff, including Dr. Thom were friendly, welcoming, and very thorough. I'm so happy I found a dentist that utilizes safe practices! I felt very comfortable here and would highly recommend it! I inquired about a procedure (having my permanent retainer removed) and they promptly gave me a price but did not pressure me to get it done. They are leaving the decision completely up to me and on my time, which I appreciate.

My daughter had just seen her usual dentist and come home after having 4 baby teeth pulled. I wanted to know more and my wife was concerned as well, she wasn’t sure of what to do and yielded to the dentist’s demands in the office. The dentist had reasoned the extractions were necessary because my daughter’s teeth were crowded. I googled the issue and one of the first things I quickly learned on Wikipedia was that one of a baby teeth’s purposes is to hold space for the incoming permanent. So the dentist had pulled 4 teeth, causing further collapse and crowding, because the existing teeth were crowded. I mean, of course, right? Once my anger faded, it was time to find a new dentist. Dr L heard my story and was visibly disgusted. I immediately felt better and knew that I had found my guy. In a time when teachers stupify students, doctors kill patients, and seemingly every other major institution serves its opposite purpose; it’s rare to find someone with real knowledge and who is worthy of trust. I still can’t believe I found Dr Lokinsgard. My daughter began functional orthodontic treatment at 8YO and will continue until all of her permanent teeth are in place. About 3-4 months into her treatment, her snoring began to fade and is now nonexistent. Her two front teeth took better shape and my wife and I were convinced that the therapy was effective, though we didn’t fully understand it. We simply trusted Dr L and the science. We were used to traditional orthodontics where the point is only straight teeth. In traditional orthodontics, no mind is given to function and up to 8-12 permanent teeth are pulled in order to achieve the desired smile. Does this sound barbaric and traumatic? It happens. However, Dr Lokinsgard will achieve straight teeth for your child with no such measures and improve the child’s breathing, facial structure and appearance, and avoid short-sighted extractions. AND, get this, after 3 years of treatment, it is looking like my daughter will indeed avoid braces. And also get this, the functional orthodontics route and all of the said benefits, come at lesser cost than traditional services. In fact, the functional ortho appliances were about the cost of having all four wisdom teeth extracted, a procedure it looks like we’ll be able to avoid as well, thanks to Dr L. After all this, I just finished a popular sports performance book, The Oxygen Advantage, and learned that this functional orthodontic therapy was probably the wisest move I ever made for my daughter as it will contribute more to her athletic success than any camp or specialization I could dream up, all the while bolstering her overall health with improved sleep and breathing. According to the experts, proper breathing is possibly more important than food choices in terms of avoiding cavities. Guess what, no cavities for my daughter. The outcomes could not be turning out better as we enter the final phase of the treatment. I can’t say it enough, I trust Dr L with my daughter and I am glad he is on my team. We all want what’s best for our child; why not then support dentists that want the same?

I called to get pricing and this office said we don’t know what it would be????? What dental office can’t give you an estimate on cost? That would mean you can try and charge whatever you want bc you’re OON!!! That makes no sense ! For me to call on my very first try and get rude service and basically say we don’t know what cost would be and we can’t tell you anything is very alarming to me. They also said they have no office manager ?

Wow - what a great office and staff! SUPER friendly and kind. Dr Thom is amazing. He is gentle, efficient and gave me the whole picture of the health of my teeth. His assistants are awesome, and also highly trained and skilled. I am very impressed with the people and vibe of the office. I highly recommend you see Dr Lokensgard. The Nashville area is so lucky to have a holistic biological dentist of this caliber.

This office is so well run and efficient. There is zero fear that they are recommending things you don’t need. They offer options for treatment. My hygienist is super gentle and fast, which I need. I highly recommend!

People are rude insensitive and uncaring. As greedy as traditional dentist. I called looking for the fun experience they promised in their ad instead I found myself picking my face up off of the ground. Very disheartening experience :^(..

I love the actual doc, and his hygienists are great however, the front desk ladies ALWAYS make the experience distant and miserable. They are not friendly or helpful at all. It feels like bullying, absolutely no smiles. I've tried several times to be nice and get them to respond in a positive way, but it's pure crickets.. just indifferent, expressionless stares. Oh, and they got my appt wrong. Appt was at 3p, I'm extremely certain because I had another thing planned at 2pm. After getting the text reminder I called early to tell them but their phone system was not working (which they admitted). When she called to ask me where I was, I told her I would be there at 3 like my appointment was. She almost started a debate and kept staying I was "missing my appt". I corrected her a few times gave her the supporting info. Any decent employee would have recognized the need for good customer service and just saved the patient, but this woman was like "Bye Felicia". She didn't actualy say those words lol, that was just the attitude. Sigh.....sucks because I really will miss Dr. Thomas. :(

I feel like Dr. Lokensgard always does what is best for both my teeth and wallet. He’s very conservative in his approach but also he’s also very natural/ holistic minded. Perfect.

This dentist is an absolute sham. They say that the metal in your old fillings is bad for you so they want to take them out and put new fillings in that don't contain metal. It's been almost a year since I had that done and my tooth is still not right. They tried multiple times to fix it and all the did was file the tooth down until there is so much space that food always gets stuck there. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. Unless you want to forever mess your teeth up

We drive over 2 hours to this office and it is well worth it! Lisa was our hygienist and she is absolutely wonderful with our daughter (age 4). Dr. Lokensgard and the entire staff provided exactly the kind of holistic dental experience we were looking for. Highly recommend!

Dr Tom and his staff are amazing! He removed 4 mercury fillings over a 2 month period. He is one of the few dentists in town that can remove mercury fillings in a safe manner. Dr Tom has become a friend of our family.

We are farmers and we follow the Weston A Price Foundation lifestyle. We use natural medicine as much as possible. We came to Dr. L from Gallatin TN because he was referred to us by the Weston A Price Nashville chapter. 100% A GREAT CHOICE. THE BEST DENTIST WE HAVE EVER BEEN TO! Here are the details. Our son is 9 and has autism. He has some messed up teeth too. We have tried a few different dentists. The last dentist we went to did major work on his mouth. But after a bad experience with one of the staff there our son was afraid to go back. Frankly he was traumatized. So we waited a year and found Dr L. We convinced our son to give this new dentist a try. Our boy is very health conscious and understands he needs to get his teeth fixed to be healthy. The extent of his mouth issues were not fully known until he got an exam with Dr L. They did an amazing job keeping him calm during his cleaning and exam. One of my favorite things about Dr L is he does the dental and the orthodontics himself. Our son operates off of the vibe around him. If the feelings in the office were negative he would not let them touch him. I believe they genuinely care for their patients and our son could sense that. Unfortunately the prognosis was not so great. Dr L told us the four crowns from the last dentist were covering infections. He recommended we remove the crowns and the baby teeth. This can make way for his adult teeth to come in. Then he can fit a retainer to start the orthodontic treatment. This means our son will have to return to have those 4 teeth pulled. We were so worried because the last dentist was discussing putting him under anesthesia at the hospital to do this procedure. We decided to give Dr. L and his staff a chance at this in their office. It is one day after the procedure. I still can't believe how well it went. Our son had four teeth pulled and was awake for the entire time. He had some funny gas but after tooth #2 he said he didn't want it. This was the moment it all could have collapsed. He was not liking the shots and was ready to bolt. The staff/Joyce did an amazing job keeping him calm. She talked to him the whole time and kept him engaged. Dr. L worked his magic and got all the teeth out. Now our son feels amazing today after that amazing accomplishment. He is so proud of himself and having that infection out of his mouth is awesome. He already feels much better. This is now our family dentist. We will gladly drive the hour to see Dr L. We are taking all of our kids there and I had a great experience with my cleaning as well. I highly recommend Dr L and his staff. They are by far the best dentist we have ever been to. It's hard to find anyone to trust in this day and age. We truly feel Dr L and his staff are trustworthy and they are obviously at the top of what they do. Our sons case was a very tough one but they handled it perfectly. It's also nice to not have your dentist shove fluoride in your face every chance they get. I say give them a try you won't regret it.

I am BEYOND thankful I went to see Dr Lokensgard a few years ago! I went to him to have my Mercury fillings removed, and it literally changed my LIFE! I was CONSTANTLY sick prior to have my fillings removed. I would have severe abdominal pain and fatigue that would keep me from leaving the house many days. I was referred by my best friend, Dr. Leigh Anne Stephens, who at the time was practicing dentistry in Denver. I am happy to say she has joined Dr Thom and his team in Franklin. She is an AMAZING dentist and will be a huge asset!
