I never write Google reviews, but felt compelled to do so. My dentist referred me to Dr. Urbanek for TMJ. The entire appointment felt like a sales pitch for a device that he invented and is NOT covered by insurance. They do not even bill insurance or try to get it covered. It costs $1,600. After seeing the doctor, you see an office worker who shows you all of the out-of-pocket-only payment options. Not to mention the fact that we’re in the height of Omicron and NO ONE in the office, including the doctor looking inside my wide open mouth, wore a mask. Dental practices wore masks even before Covid! Please do not waste your time and seek a different referral.

I went here for a consultation that was basically just a sales pitch for the doctors medical device (that is not covered by any insurance) During this “consultation” the very arrogant doctor did this thing where he pressed on my jaw and made me open and close my mouth. It was extremely painful and has been bothering me since I left his office. After he did this he continued to tell me how smart he is because he could see I was in pain (that he caused) He told me I had 3 options but really only 2 because I’m “too young” for surgery. Either pay $1,600 out of pocket for his glorified mouth guard or do nothing and be in pain for the rest of my life. There are other options. DO NOT fall for this scam!

Please do not go to this doctor. My jaw hasn't been the same since. I went for a consultation on referral from my prior dentist (I switched after going to Urbanek). I was having mild jaw issues but on the day of my consultation my jaw was actually feeling normal. Didn't really like Urbanek's attitude, but my biggest problem was when he told me to open my mouth as wide as I could (which I can no longer do) while he pressed down on my jaw joints. While in this position he told me to close my jaw as fast as I could. I didn't think anything of it at the time because I generally trust doctors, but in hindsight this probably messed up my jaw because it hasn't been the same. Now I have pain and headaches daily and my jaw constantly clicks when I talk. Since then I've seen other doctors including one who told me they wouldn't send their family to Urbanek. Wish I had read some of these other reviews before I went. It's taken me awhile to write a full review because I didn't want to bash anyone, but if I can spare someone from the pain and frustration I've gone through then it's worth it. Started seeing another doctor who's much nicer and who's been very helpful but I'm still in the process of fixing my jaw issues. I have so much regret over going to see Urbanek but what's done is done.

Great experience with Dr. Urbanek. Came in for an issue with TMJ and within 2 months my symptoms decreased by 90%. After consultation he took imprints of my mouth and bite and had a special bite guard built. I have followed his instructions to the letter and what he said would happen has happened. I can’t thank he and his staff enough. They are professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. As long as you follow his steps 100% you will have positive results and a solution to your problem. Thank you Dr. Urbanek and staff.

Read all of the other reviews detailing Dr. Urbanek's miracle mouthguard racket for people who had the misfortune of being conned by him. One review states that writing the glowing reviews are done on the follow-up visit - apparently this is how he shields himself. Thankfully I had a bad gut feeling during our consultation due to his arrogance and insistence on not wearing a county-mandated mask for no reason at all, and before I was forced to sign consent forms saying that I had been fully informed of all "other options" (which was absolutely false) I asked the assistant if my getting braces soon would affect the device. She was flustered and responded that it would, but "if I could just go ahead and sign the consent forms then I could talk to someone about it while I was getting impressions done". It would've been that easy to get $1600 from me, which I only now understand isn't even covered by insurance? Absolutely insane. I left the forms on the counter and left the building. Dr. Urbanek confessed that he barely performs surgery anymore because he focuses on his "device" - meanwhile, I'm stuck with the same issues and heavy concern that Dr. Urbanek's arrogance will result in me getting coronavirus - always trust your gut! CS rep: don't bother responding to this comment.

After experiencing a two-month-long season of extreme jaw pain, stiffness, and swelling, I went to Dr. Urbanek and was immediately so comforted by him and his team. He walked me through why my jaw was hurting and how we could work on helping relieve that severe pain and swelling. Within a few days, I was fitted for a splint that I now wear every single day. I haven't experienced jaw pain in weeks. I am SO grateful for Dr. Urbanek and his team. Truly, do not wait any longer and make an appointment.

If you decide to go to Dr. Urbanek keep a few things in mind. His consolation will essentially be a quick elevator pitch for his "urbanek splint" which he claims is different and better than any other type of splint. However, his device is not covered by any insurance plans, which is a red flag. TMJ is treated all over the place without the urbanek splint so don't buy into it too much. He is definitely a smug narcissist which makes it hard to have a conversation with him. Many reviews on here claim that they followed his treatment plan with no results, so in the consultation I asked what his success rate is to see what he would say and he told me "100% of people relief, the only ones that don't lost the device or don't wear it". You will then be forwarded to the "how would you like to pay for this?" meeting with the options being paying outright, in house financing with additional fees, financing through synchrony after a credit check. Keep in mind you do not have to make a decision right there, you can think on it or get a second opinion. I decided to go to Dr. Poss instead and have only great things to say about them, and guess what? My insurance covered my treatment with him.

The sales pitch that Dr. Urbanek presented felt like a well scripted play. There were elements that were not accurate. An urgency was presented with the expectation of immediate enrollment to start a costly process. I will look for another opinion.

After 40 years of ear pain, which was getting worse, I’m finally nearly pain free! It’s at least 80% better in just 3 weeks! What felt like a stabbing knife that kept me from sleeping on my right (and preferred) side, and almost daily headaches are a thing of the past. I’m so thankful to Dr. Urbanek and his staff!

do not go to this doctor. I used the splint (after he basically wouldn’t listen to any of my issues up front.. I felt like I had to buy it by the way he made me feel) for 6 months + , and NO results. if anything, i’m worse. he recommends this split to every single one of his patients no matter what their problem may be, and if you even try to go off of his script that he gives everybody, then he has the worst temper and bad side manner possible towards you. I am now almost a year in from wearing this split, and all I have is a messed up under bite from the splint, and no relief from the pressure in my ears / jaw issues. what a joke. if you value your $ and your health, this doctor is not for you AT ALL. I highly recommend, and judging from most of these reviews others do too, that you run fast from Dr. Urbanek. He is rude, doesn’t listen to you or your actual problems, and acts like he has 100000 chips on his shoulder. 0/10. do. not. go.

I was sent to Dr. Urbanek after struggling with TMJ symptoms for close to a year. Hopeful for some relief I went to my appointment where I was given an X-ray and an exam. I told him my symptoms and he recommended his signature treatment, a splint that fits to the top of your mouth behind your front teeth to relieve pressure off your back teeth to manage your TMJ symptoms. I complied and gave hundreds of dollars up front and agreed to pay a couple hundred dollars a month due to this device. I was fitted for it and came back a couple weeks later for my splint. I was told to wear it or 24/7. It was uncomfortable and made it difficult to speak but I did it anyways because I wanted relief. My jaw continued to click more and my jaw pain became more intense. Due to a 45 minute drive and work schedule I couldn't come in when he had suggested, I came in when I could (which wasn't too far off from his suggestion) I was called the "problem patient" and he didn't know how he could treat me correctly if I didn't come in when he suggested. He goes through the same questions every appointment, and if you bring up any other concerns he tells you to answer the question he asked and not bring up anything else. My concern was my jaw felt like it was just completely gassed out on the right side. Like my muscle was completely giving out. It was completely locking at this point. He built the splint up MORE with whatever he uses and told me to wear it 24/7 again. I complied once again but felt defeated because I knew something more was wrong. I scheduled with a local botox clinic in Franklin, because I had heard Botox helps TMJ. The doctor at the clinic went through my history felt my jaw and muscles and told me I indeed did NOT have TMJ I had a neurological pain disorder called trigeminal neuralgia. I later went to my primary care doctor and I was officially diagnosed and am now am seeing a neurologist for the first time this week. The right side of jaw has been locked for a year now and I've gone through a tremendous amount of pain that I feel like could have been avoided if Dr. Urbanek would have actually listened instead of diagnosing and following the same treatment as he does for everyone. I encourage you if you're looking to find relief from TMJ please get a second opinion before you could potentially waste thousands of dollars on a medical "device" that just now sits in your bed side table completely useless.

Dr. Urbanek and his office were just what I needed. I have an extremely rewarding but stressful job, and I finally decided to do something about my TMJ pain after being advised to visit a specialist. At first I was skeptical, but I decided that I didn't have anything to lose...except my jaw pain, headaches, awful teeth grinding at night, and what I later learned was a direct result of my TMJ pain, numbness and tingling in my left arm and fingers! :( Dr. Urbanek diagnosed me and challenged me to wear his TMJ Splint for 2 months for 24/7 except for meals. After some practice, I was able to talk with it pretty well so that many people didn't notice that I had the splint in my mouth. I wore the splint as directed and my symptoms quickly went away, some symptoms after the first 48 hours! I am so THANKFUL for this splint;otherwise, I'm not sure where I'd be with my pain. It was really starting to affect my life in a debilitating way. If you're struggling with TMJ pain, go see Dr. Urbanek. You have nothing to lose except your PAIN! Also, shout out to Julie in Financing at Dr. Urbankek's office, who is AMAZING.

I saw Dr. Urbanek when my jaw clicking became very routine. I grind my teeth at night and have for over a decade. Dr. Urbanek explained the clicking might not go away but my other symptoms should. Wearing the guard for 2 months was tough and I felt like it was a bit difficult to talk normally but no one around me found it odd and it was well worth it. My symptoms all improved over the two months and my jaw clicking did in fact become drastically reduced. Less than a year ago I had gotten a night guard from a dentist and felt like it was a total waste of money. This splint was much more expensive but given that it worked I find it to be worth the cost. I have always found Dr. Urbanek and his staff to be very pleasant and informative. He knows his stuff!

I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical on my first visit. However, given my particular set of circumstances, I felt as though I should at least give it a try. I am glad I did. I noticed improvement in the first couple of weeks. However, after a mere eight weeks, I was back to where I should have been all along. Sure, I now understand that I have a damaged joint. Still, it is much better than it was. While it was not fun wearing the device, it was effective. I think of it being a bit like a cast. No one ever enjoys a broken body part, and they certainly do not like wearing a cast. However, the end result is definitely appreciated! The same applies to me and my jaw issues.

I originally posted a good review for this doctor. After my dentist was concerned that the change in my bite from Dr. Urbanek's splint, I decided to seek a second and third opinion and see what else could be done. I still had popping and pain with his splint. The new treatment I am receiving is working well so I hope this is the answer for me. I would not recommend Dr. Urbanek's splint as a good solution for TMD, it will ruin your bite.

Dr. Urbanek is top notch! No, this is not an animated review! I am a real person, believe me! Dr. Urbanek is very knowledgeable about his craft and I trust him with anything regarding my teeth, jaw, and mouth in general. He will keep the conversation honest and forthright. But he is very sentimental and sympathetic to the subject of TMJ, teeth, and mouth problems. He understands your pain and he can pinpoint the exact issue (and sometimes the issue is something you would have never thought of). Here is my story.....It all started with some pain in my jaw one morning. Nothing too painful; just weird. Then, by that afternoon, I was in so much pain!! I couldn't open/shut my mouth all the way, my teeth were misaligned, and I couldn't chew food very well. Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Tylenol were not cutting it so I went to my local dentist office and they referred me to Dr. Urbanek. I never knew this office would be a blessing in disguise. I was afraid and in pain. Dr. Urbanek told me about his TMJ Splint that he patented and let me tell you, the pain almost went away instantly! The Splint will be the first thing he prescribes to you before he even mentions surgery; but keep in mind he will be very honest. Each case will differ. It is a GOD SEND!! I feels weird at first but trust me it gets better and easier. After 3.5 months, my symptoms are as if they never existed! Like all injuries, they will flare up but the Splint will take care of it. I can't thank Dr. Urbanek enough for helping me!

The TMJ splint has relieved my jaw/joint pain & drastically reduced migraine headaches. I noticed the improvement right away. I bite through the traditional night guard every 2 years, because it didn't prevent me from clinching my teeth. The Urbanek TMJ splint keeps the jaw teeth from ever touching. I definitely recommend getting this if you have any TMJ issues due to clinching or grinding.

My first office visit I asked doctor Urbanek if the splint would fix my problems, if I wouldn’t need surgery, he guarantee the splint would fix everything. So I paid $1600 for the splint. 4 months later, I still didn’t see much chance on my symptoms so Urbanek told me I would need a surgery. What a joke! I told him I wouldn’t get the surgery and asked for my money back. He offered me $800 back and took my splint. So I pretty much paid 800$ to use the device that DIDNT WORK for 4 months. Be aware! Also he is very rude every consultation.

Spent thousands of dollars and almost a year preparing for an abutment and crown. Once all the major expenses were collected, and my final visit was scheduled, I was asked by the office manager to arrive an hour earlier for my appointment to accommodate Dr. Urbanek; I sat in the waiting area and treatment room until well PAST my original appointment time, only to be met by a very arrogant and flippant doctor who said that I had “popped up in his schedule” and that I was basically cramping his day (appointment had been scheduled months ahead). He then told me that he would get to me if he “had the tool” to set my abutment, but I would likely need to reschedule. SERIOUSLY, TONY URBANEK? I always showed YOU and you wife the utmost professional courtesy. Apparently you aren’t held to the same professional standard.

Dr. Urbanek is wonderful. It has been a little over a week since I had the surgery. The TMJ has improved and the inside of my mouth feels great. I can't thank Dr. Urbanek and his staff enough for all they have done for me. The ringing in my ears is gone. I just don't know what to say. Thank you so much.

I came to Dr. Urbanek after a referral from my dentist due to “clicking”, “popping”, and “slipping” of my left jaw joint. I also had periods of my jaw locking and not opening all the way. Sleeping at night was miserable. I would wake to “popping” and my jaw locked and unable to fully open. I was on a liquid diet from the same symptoms making eating almost impossible. Dr. Urbanek assessed my problem and also identified several other symptoms I didn’t know were related to my jaw; headaches, ringing in my ear, tingling in my arm, and a full feeling in my ear as if it were stopped up. He fitted me for a splint that day and in ten days I was wearing it 24/7. After 3 weeks the ringing was gone, tingling in my arm had stopped, the headaches were gone, and my ear felt clear. The “locking and “popping”, though improved, were still there. Today after two months I can say 90% of all my symptoms are gone. I am able to sleep without waking to a “locked” or “popping” jaw. I am eating real food that is on the softer side and progressing with what I am able to eat everyday. If you have any issues with your jaw, headaches, ear ringing, neck pain, arm tingling, or fullness of your ear go see Dr. Urbanek today. I thought surgery was in my future, but his little “retainer” like splint is returning me back to normal. Thank you so much Dr. Urbanek and your team! Eric

Previously I used to wake at night clinching my teeth so hard I felt like I might crack a tooth and would have horrible headaches after waking from sleep. It even got so bad I had ringing in my ears, which was very uncomfortable at times. My jaw was starting to pop and make a cracking noise. No I was not the worse case Dr. URBANEK has ever treated by far, but to me it felt horrible and I felt like there was nothing I could do. I tried night guards yes and they would only last a few nights before tearing and breaking and never gave much relief at all. But after meeting Dr. URBANEK he was able to understand my pain and treat it in a way that was totally different from other dentists. I have always been treated with respect from Dr. URBANEK and told that any adjustments on the device are free for life. I think it’s been close to a year now and my jaw pain is so much better, no more waking in pain throughout the night. Headaches are 90 percent better which is amazing and no more ringing whatsoever. I recently started to wear a spot on my splint and made a quick call to the office and sure enough was told I could come in as soon as the next day and get an adjustment Dr. URBANEK again took good care of me and filled and buffed the worn spot and was back on my way in minutes totally free of charge. At the beginning of the process I was given three reasonable options to pay and the money I have saved in dental visits and devices that don’t work or break too quickly has payed for the device. I can’t urge you enough to at least take a free consultation and just see what these people can do for you. Thank you Dr. URBANEK and team for your help and continued dedication.

If I could give him 10 stars I would. My TMJ journey started in 2012. I went to my first Oral surgeon and he wanted to give me 4 shots in my mouth every visit. After the third visit and too many shots I told my mom I was not going back, I would rather live with the pain. The surgeon kept telling me that I would eventually have to have surgery. My mom asked questions, but she was not satisfied with the answers. The surgeon said he would have to break my jaw, possibly put a splint in and he wasn't sure if that would work. Well after that we didn't return. In 2015 I started seeing another surgeon. They wanted to treat my TMJ with meds and the attitude was this is something you will have to just live with and I quote "Its like living with diabetes" WHAT?? In Oct 2018 my jaw again locked open and I went to visit Dr. Urbanek. He figured out that I had both kinds of TMJ; the locking of the jaw (open) and headaches/ear pain. He suggested the splint, I started wearing the splint and I noticed a huge difference. No more headaches, no more ear pain. However during this time my jaw locked open 3 times, 2 times in one night. Dr. Urbanek suggested arthroplasty. The surgery was the best thing I could have done. My pain in my jaw was never below a 4. Now I'm PAIN FREE! I highly recommend Dr. Urbanek! His staff is GREAT. I'm forever grateful for him and his staff. THANK YOU DR. URBANEK

All of his 5 star reviews are either fake or he had people do it in the office. There is no way these people in their right mind would give this con 5 stars! Plus they say backed by thousands, but no thousands on his webpage and the 2 videos are heavily scripted. This place is out to steal your money and you CANT GET IT BACK!!! DONT GO HERE! HE IS A RIP OFF AND SUPER UNFRIENDLY! This "splint" seriously as one other user said is nothing more than a glorified mouth guard only it costs thousands more and his bedside manner sucks. Hes so unpleasant I couldnt get away fast enough. This splint holds your mouth open so you CAN NOT TALK while wearing it. If you notice noone in the 2 videos are wearing one while making the video yet he says you wear it for life. You cant work or talk to people wearing it. You cant go to social functions or gatherings and be able to talk while wearing it without sounding retarded like your playing that game where it holds your mouth open lol. Dont waste your time or your money and get a mouth guard from your dentist for UNDER 300$ And you will be paying for the same thing at a fraction of the cost. Gonna consult with care credit and try and get my money back. I dunno what will happen though.. what a freakin nightmare

Hi Jessica, Thank you for sharing your opinion, however we have checked our records and have never treated you for TMJ disorder and we did not create TMJ Splint for you. We also have not received any feedback from any patients regarding any of the concerns posted here. If we had, they would have been address and resolved immediately to the patient satisfaction. Regardless, your assumptions are incorrect and your review of the device is very misleading. Thank you though for the opportunity to address your concerns and to clarify... Over the past 20 years, Dr. Urbanek has in fact helped thousands of patients find a solution to their TMJ pain with his patented TMJ Splint and he has hundreds of 5-star reviews online. Many of our patient's success stories were handwritten and displayed in our office (before digital became more popular) and many more are now posted on our website's review platform at the links below. They are definitely not "fake." We have never paid a patient to provide a success story. These are real stories and real results directly from actual patients. https://www.drurbanek.com/patient-information/testimonials/ https://www.drurbanek.com/meet-us/patient-reviews/ You can also see pictures of many of these patients and their success stories on our Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/drtonyurbanek I personally interviewed, the ladies in our TMJ Success Stories videos that we have posted on our site. These were actual patients who were asked questions about their experience and responded in their own words how the Urbanek Splint has helped them. They were not given a script, they were not told what to say and they were not paid in any way to share their story. The Urbanek Splint is far from a "glorified mouth guard" and fortunately, it does not "costs thousands more." Dr. Urbanek sees patients in his office every day who have tried other mouth guards, but are still in pain and come to him looking for a solution. It is a unique device that is patented and has FDA approval. There are even other dentists in Oral Surgeons who are now licensed to provide the Urbanek Splint, as they too recognize the effectiveness of this particular device. Yes, when a patient first starts wearing the splint, they may talk a little differently. But, nowhere near (or offensively) as you described. However, most of our patients would rather talk slightly different to end the misery of their TMJ pain and they get used to it after wearing it as prescribed. The splint does not hold your mouth open at all like the game you mentioned. Unlike the game, it is not visually noticeable in anyway. Plus most patients progress to just wearing it while they sleep. Our patients tell us that Dr. Urbanek's splint is the only thing that works and they are happy to avoid surgery and drugs. We do hope that whatever your situation is does improve for you and we are here to help you anyway we can. Please feel free to contact me at the office or directly at [email protected] with any additional feedback, questions or concerns.

Was having excrutiating pain that the endodontist I had seen couldn't discern. He referred me to Dr. Urbanek, and I was told I couldn't be seen for 10 days. My dentist's office, which also uses him, called, and was told that if I was in that much pain, I needed to go to the ER because they couldn't help me anyway. (Note: ER's consult with dental specialists, so this was a useless recommendation.) I saw an oral surgeon Friday who worked me in and diagnosed my pain, putting me on the road to recovery. I cancelled my appt with Dr. Urbanek this morning. I won't EVER go there.

Reply from Anthony P. Urbanek, DDS, MS, MD
Hi LeAnn, We are so sorry about your excruciating pain, but happy to hear one of our colleagues was able to fit you into their schedule and help you! As you mentioned in one of your other reviews, most Oral Surgeons could not see you any earlier than 6 week. We were able to get you in within 10 days, but would let you know as soon as something opened up. Dr. Urbanek was already booked solid when our office received your call on a Thursday afternoon. Our office is open Mon-Thurs and we were especially busy because of an upcoming out-of-town conference the doctor was scheduled to attend. Doctor Urbanek has received hundreds of 5-star reviews (www.drurbanek.com) for his patient care and we are confident that had we had the opportunity to help you, you would have receive the same level of care. The most important thing, of course, is that you are on the road the recovery. We do hope your situation has continued to improve.

0 stars if I could. He is a terrible dr with a terrible bedside manner! Do not get scammed by him. He collects his money up front and if you are not satisfied you will not get it back! 1600!!! And all he will say is wear my device and if not then oh well I got your money

Reply from Anthony P. Urbanek, DDS, MS, MD
Hi Brandon, Thanks so much for your feedback. We have checked our records and don't see you have visited us for a consult nor were ever a patient of Dr. Urbanek. So, I am not sure of your current situation. However, Dr. Urbanek is passionate about helping his patient's find relief from their TMJ symptoms and his TMJ Splint has helped 1,000 of patients (see www.drurbanek.com) who wear the splint as recommended, get out of pain for good! A patient would need to wear their splint as prescribed to experience the same results. Our patients even have access to unlimited consultations and even adjustments if needed but typically most symptoms are gone within 3-6 months. His splint has been described many times a life changer! We do hope your situation does improve for you, and if you have any additional feedback or we can help in any way, please feel free to reach out to me directly anytime at [email protected]

My story started approximately 40 years ago. I would wake up every morning with a sore stiff jaw. I was told I had TMJ. Take 2 Advil and wear my night guard. As time went on, my jaw would tighten up periodically to where I couldn’t open or close my mouth. I had neck pain, upper back pain, dizziness and ringing in my right ear. I thought the neck and back pain was caused from my profession as a hair stylist. The dizziness and ringing in my ear, I was told was allergies. Living in the south it seems like everyone has allergies. So, I took allergy medicine, massage therapy and chiropractor for neck and back pain. Nothing was helping and symptoms weren’t improving. Nov 10th 2018 was the day it all fell apart. I was eating lunch and out of no where my right jaw popped and I thought I had been struck by lightening!! The pain and burning was something I had never experienced. I did what I was told before, “take 2 Advil and where my night guard” Nothing changed. I lived like this for 3 weeks. I didn’t know where to turn for help. I started with my dentist and they said go to an oral surgeon. I called Dr. Urbanek’s office because he had taken my 2 sons wisdom teeth out a few years before. I had no idea he was a TMJ specialist. I gave him my symptom, he explained very thoroughly what was going on and if I followed his directions with the splint he would make for me I would see much improvement. Because I had already tried the traditional mouth guard with no relief, I decided to go with the splint option. Wearing it 24/7, With in 3 weeks the popping had stopped. Symptoms were improving. After following Dr Urbaneks instructions, today, 2 months after starting with the splint, my jaw doesn’t pop, the ringing in my ear and dizziness is gone, my neck and back are improving!! I found hope with the splint Dr Urbanek made for me. It was a game changer. I won’t and don’t endorse something I don’t believe in. If you are having any of these kinds of symptoms, I highly recommend you visit Dr Urbanek and educate yourself on this solution. It’s not difficult. It’s quite simple. Sincerly, Lori K

Dr. Urbanek has changed my life. He donated his time and services to repair my cleft palate and my jaw. These were serious, time-consuming, life-altering surgeries for me. Prior to this, as a child in Mongolia, I had several unsuccessful surgeries. However, Dr. Urbanek walked me through this process every step of the way. He did four procedures on my mouth, which changed my appearance and my speech, and gave me much-needed confidence. I am truly grateful for everything Dr. Urbanek has done for me.

I have been to several specialist over the years trying to figure out why I had constant migraines and my jaw locking up almost daily. All I got was medical bills and the runaround. Dr. Urbanek asked me so many questions to learn about my problems. Came to find out that I have a jaw growth. A specialized retainer later and I haven't had migraines in over 6 months. What a relief!

By far the worst dental experience I’ve seen and i work in the dental field. I brought my grandfather to have his mouth guard adjusted and his doctor was very rude. He treated him like a child and wouldn’t allow him to speak, i had to ask the doctor are you going to allow him to answer your question or keep talking over him.. I called to make an appt and wasn’t informed the office relocated. After searching for the old location i found they had moved on my own. I called the office to inform them we would be late due to not being informed they moved. No one answers the phone.

I was referred to Dr. Urbanek by Dr. Ashley Costello at Salem Creek Family Dental in Murfreesboro TN. I have had TMJ for several years now. My jaw pain was almost unbearable. Dr. Urbanek took the time to listen and asked all the right questions. After wearing my custom splint for about 2 months. I can now say my pain is almost non-existent. I highly recommend his custom device.

After a lifetime of headaches and ear pain, I had a swollen jaw and neck. After a month of antibiotics and steroids with no resolution, doctors threw up their hands. Finally I went to my dentist who sent me to Dr. Urbanek who diagnosed me with TMD. After 3 weeks of wearing the splint, I have no swelling or pain! I knew I had issues with TMJ before, but now my symptoms are gone.

When I came to Dr. Urbanek, I had been a migraine suffer for more than 8 years suffering from more than 9 migraines per month. No one could tell me why I was having them they just kept coming month after month. Within days of receiving my splint, I started getting relief from my symptoms?the first things I noticed was that the pain and pressure that was always in my temples was gone! Then the pressure in the back of my head at the base of my skull was gone!! Little by little things started getting better, my shoulders didn’t hurt anymore, my ears didn’t feel stuffy and did I say that it’s been 36 days since I’ve had a migraine!!!! Oh my gosh!!!! This is the best money I’ve ever spent! I highly recommend Dr. Urbanek and his TMJ splint if you are suffering.. don’t suffer any longer make an appointment and go see him and let him change your life !! All you have to lose is the pain! ?

I was referred to this dentist by my orthodontist because I need braces but was told that I had issues with TMJ and my dentist wanted to make sure that was the problem with my teeth so they sent me to Dr. Urbanek. Once I arrived, the secretary there(Julie) was very kind and that's why I gave this an extra star. When I got called back to see Dr. Urbanek, he greets me and shakes my hand and then I let him know that my x-ray that was pulled up on the screen was an old x-ray and that I had more recent ones but he did nothing about it. He actually seemed very rude and as if he was in a rush which seems to be a trend with the other reviews I have read. He would completely cut me off when I tried to talk and I started to tell him why my dentist referred me, and he said he didn't care what my dentist thought and proceeded to make me answer his questions. My dentist is the reason why I was there and why Dr. Urbanek was getting paid to see me so I'm not sure why he would be so rude about that. And he didn't really seem to care about my opinion either because he "denied" the things I said and continued to cut me off when I spoke. He was more concerned about I f I was going to buy his splint that would cost $1,600(that you have to pay out of pocket because he doesn't accept any insurance to cover it). I don't know if the splint actually works or not but I honestly wouldn't recommend this dentist if you want someone who actually cares about helping you rather than making money.

Reply from Anthony P. Urbanek, DDS, MS, MD
Hi Renee, Thanks so much for your feedback. Dr. Urbanek is passionate about helping his patient's find relief from their TMJ symptoms, first with questions to better understand your situation, an exam and then explaining how the splint can help, if necessary. Dr. Urbanek's office does accept insurance. However, despite the overwhelming popularity and effectiveness, (see all the Success Stories at www.drurbanek.com) it's actually the insurance companies who do not cover the medical device for TMJ, even though they will cover surgery and drugs. We apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding and do hope you find relief from your TMJ symptoms.

Terrible experience. Terrible bedside manner. Terrible surgical results. The device he installed surgically is now painfully coming out of my ear requiring another surgery. His answer to his own mistake: a high pressure sales pitch for his $1500 device or I just need to learn to live with it. No thanks! I'm heading to real surgeon now who actually knows what they're talking about and cares about the end results. This guy is a scam artist. DON'T GO!

I was referred to Dr. Urbanek by my dentist. His office staff was great to fit me in the day I called to get my painful wisdom teeth out. The appointment was scheduled for 2:40 but I didn't go back until after 4:30. It did seem like they had a higher priority patient that day, though. The procedure wasn't all that bad - I was out cold. Of course when I woke up it was painful. I got by the first couple of days on pain meds but by the weekend I was in so much pain and the meds weren't helping. I tried calling their weekend phone but no one answered or called me back. I had three sleepless nights due to dry socket, went in first thing Monday morning. Without even talking or looking at my mouth he just told the assistant to put a dry socket dressing in there. Regardless, if that is all that could've been done, I would've felt at peace if he would've taken 3 minutes to even look in my mouth and say "looks alright, but we will treat you for dry socket". I go back today for my post-op. He puts the mirror tool in one cheek, then in the other cheek and says "Looks good" - literally less than a minute examination. I drove 30 mins each way for that. If you want a caring, thorough doctor that takes your confidence in his work under consideration I would not suggest him. During each of my three visits, he always seemed in a rush and wouldn't even give me the time of day or let me ask questions.

Reply from Anthony P. Urbanek, DDS, MS, MD
Hi Julia, Thank you so much for your feedback. Dr. Urbanek keeps a very busy schedule, but I am happy to hear our patient coordinator was able to accommodate you on the same day you called for an appointment. Unfortunately, as mentioned to you, Dr. Urbanek had an Emergency Patient with a fractured jaw, which of course was unexpected. While your painful wisdom teeth were definitely a concern of our staff, they did the best they could to both work you in that same day and handle an unexpected emergency. Our staff also responded as quickly as possible to your concerns, even with an issue with our weekend voicemail service, but Dr. Urbanek adheres to very strict ethical procedures in regards to prescription drugs and will usually only prescribe one round of pain medicine for this type of procedure. Dr. Urbanek has 1,000's of reviews and success stories on his website who appreciate his expertise and care. We are truly sorry that your experience was not the same. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me anytime at [email protected]

I first was told I had TMJ when I went to the doctor thinking I had an ear infection. It felt like a very severe ear infection deep down in my ear. My doctor took a look in my ear and told me that nothing was wrong. A few months later, I returned with the same symptoms. Again, she looked in my ear and said that nothing was wrong. Then she suggested that I may have TMJ. I spoke to my dentist about it. My dentist looked at my x-ray, and suggested that the problem was probably my wisdom teeth. I got my wisdom teeth removed and found that afterwards the pain in my jaw did not stop and was amplified. I told my dentist about it again, and he sent me here. I came in, and answered his questions and was diagnosed with TMJ. There would be weeks and even months where I could not turn my head a certain direction, and I thought it was just stress and tension. I thought that I just got migraines. After I started wearing the splint (as annoying as it may have been at first) my symptoms began to go away. Now I do not live off of Motrin and Bengay.

Hi, I am a Scuba Instructor in Kauai and I was having major issues with serious pain in my ears and jaw while I was diving and it was taking the fun out of diving. I was originally told to go and see an ENT and then they told me it was TMJ so that's how I found Dr. Urbanek. I was having major pain behind and under my ears. I would also retain a lot of fluid behind my eardrum which would cause me equalization problems and a lot of ear infections. The entire right side of my face and down my neck would swell after I would go diving and would last a few days. I wasn't able to do my job anymore due to the pain. I was having vertigo issues under water and I would also have major issues with lock jaw to the point I was on a soup and noodle diet because I could barely open my mouth to fit anything in. Dr. Urbanek has been able to give me my happy and exciting lifestyle back! I have been using his device for 1.5 years now and I don't know what I would do without it! I wear it at night only now....I really hated using it at first but now I feel weird even if I nap without it in. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

He exacted a back left tooth. He done a good job with removing the tooth and he was very quick about it. The thing I wish that he would have done is Sedated me or gave me Nitrogenous Oxide so I would be either totally knocked out or where I didn't know what was going on. After a week I still can hear the drill. He felt uncomfortable putting me under because of my Asthma.

I've had days to think about this I've calmed down I thought about everything that happened and everything that was said and if I was in the right if I was in the wrong and I'm sorry but I'm 99% sure he was in the wrong this man flat out lied to me to my face. I went in because of a lump on my tongue he says we need to take a biopsy of it I said okay I told this man I was terrified of dentist. He comes and tells me he needs to numb me up with this huge needle I said hold up I need you to put some numbing topical solution in my mouth first. He says we do not have that here at this office I said why would you not have that here?. He tells me they put everybody to sleep at this office so I said will put me to sleep he says TennCare will not pay for this. While thinking this lump I need to know if it's cancer so he does put this needle in the back of my jaw and when he does and I about climb out of the seat the tells me to hush I'm scaring the children. Well I wasn't screaming but I was definitely making a lot of rumbling noises he was holding my tongue with a piece of gauze so I really couldn't scream. When he took the scalpel to take a chunk out of my tongue I could feel it and I tried to let him know I could feel it and once again he told me to calm down and act like a grown-up and stop scaring the children. When it was done all I wanted to do was leave because my mom said if you don't have something good to say don't say anything at all so I left. Well I went back a week later to have my stitches taken out and the nurse comes in to numb my tongue and I said oh no no we're not putting a needle in my mouth today I have my own lidocaine she says no I'm going to put some topical solution on your tongue and it will numb it. I said no that's impossible because y'all don't have that stuff here at this office she said yeah we have that I said well last week when y'all stuck a big needle in my jaw without putting any on it you said you didn't have it why I asked. She said well we were in a hurry. At that point I was pissed. The doctor come in she already taking my stitches out he looked at my tongue said it looked good. That is when I had something to say and I asked him why he would lie to me and tell me they had no topical numbing solution at their office he said there was no sense using it because it does no good and I was a grown-up and I should not have acted the way I did and I was not happy and kept telling him he should not treat a patient that way and all he would say was well we agree to disagree. I asked why he would lie to a patient and that's all he would say it was we agree to disagree that was the only answer he would give me to all of the questions I had so I'm just warning everybody out there do not go to this man unless you plan on being put to sleep for whatever procedure you're having. and I would not recommend it even then the test results came back everything was good it's not cancer thank God I'm glad

I've experienced headaches with pain in my jaw, neck and shoulders for over five years. The second time my jaw locked, I went to my dentist to ask for help. I knew i couldn't sit through my scheduled dentist appointment. It would be too painful. She referred me to Dr. Urbanek. I was a little skeptical that the splint would be the solution and at first, it was awkward to wear. I got used to it and noticed a difference within the first 3 weeks. I also understood when I was clenching my jaw. The splint has alleviated 100% of my symptoms. With the splint and my new knowledge of TMD, I can now avoid the pain. Thank you!

Before visiting Dr. Urbanek, I believed that there was no hope with curing my symptoms. I was having headaches and pain in my shoulders. I also had ear aches that stem back as far as childhood. Dr. Urbanek diagnosed me with TMJ and recommended a device, called a splint. The best way to describe it is a retainer that provides relief to my back teeth. At first it was uncomfortable to wear, but I am so thankful I gave it the chance it deserves. Within a week, I was already experiencing changes in my symptoms. Now two months later, I am so greatful for the change it has made in my life. Without constant pain, I am more active and enjoying so much more of my life. I would encourage anyone to go see what this device can do for you. Thank you so much Dr. Urbanek and your staff

I agree with other reviews...he is Only set on his device. I bought it then once i told him it gagged me and icoukdnt wear it 24/7 but only at night..he dismissed me becaue he says it only works wearing it ALL the time..atexit appt he has you do a review while his staff sits there and watches you on his tablet..after i left there i no longer wore it and then noticed my teeth shifted and left a gap on one side.. so all the work of braces shot to heck..ive lost $1500..hav spaces between my teeth that i didnt hav before his mouth piece. ..and still severe TMJ but now worse save ur money n time

He was a nice guy but he did not really allow you to talk. He was very quick and asked a series of questions, when you get done answering the questions about TMJ he imidiately goes into a sales pitch for "the device". He will not offer you any help with TMJ except "the device". Said device cost 1500 dollars and is made by him and not covered under insurance. He offers you no help if you are unwilling to get his "device". So do not go unless you have 1500 dollars to drop on a retainer that goes in your mouth. It might help but some people just don't have that kind of money. Fair warning.

Hi Manny, Thank you so much for your feedback! Dr. Urbanek is very confident that he can help you with his TMJ Splint and is very passionate about it, as you can probably tell! We have seen a success rate of 90% from our TMJ splint and helped thousands of patients get rid of pain and avoid surgery! Ironically, the insurance companies only cover surgery right now, but we are hoping to get that changed for our patients. In the meantime, we have set up a Foundation for people just like yourself who may not be able to afford the TMJ Splint treatment without the help of insurance. Please contact our offices to apply for a complimentary TMJ Splint with the TMJ Foundation. We truly want to help our patients anyway we can, especially if that means avoiding surgery. I had a very bad experience with Dr. Urbanek in 2013. I have TMJ and was in lots of pain. Dr. Urbanek's manner was brusque. He didn't really allow me to tell 'my story.' He simply did an exam of my mouth and jaw, asked some 'yes or no' and 'rate your pain' type questions and then listed off treatments "1. Take ibuprophen, which won't solve anything. 2. Get surgery...which 'you don't need because you're TMJ isn't severe enough. 3. Get my patent-pending $1,200 mouth splint that your insurance will not cover 4. Ignore the TMJ... which you obviously are not doing since you're in my office" I can't speak to the efficacy of his mouth splint/ bite guard... because I cried after he left the room and neither went back to his office nor purchased the treatment. While I was crying, an office staff person entered the room and took my picture for my patient file. As I said before, I don't know about the benefits of the treatment, but I can speak to the 'bedside manner' and lack of personal interaction that I experienced. I'm sorry to be harsh but want people to know that I wish I had gone elsewhere.

I suffered with TMJ and tooth pain for at least ten years or more but I really didn't want to have surgery or lose another tooth. I went to see Dr. Urbanek at my dentist's request because he had heard that Dr. Urbanek invented a device that could help my pain without surgery. I wasn't really convinced but I went anyway because the pain was just getting worse. The device that he made fit comfortably in my mouth and almost from the moment I put it in I started to feel better. Over the next few days my pain just went away and I couldn't be happier. So glad I went to see Dr. Urbanek and would recommend him over and over.

I did not ask for any referrals from my co-workers, I wasn't recommended/referred by a dentist...I simply looked online and saw that this Dr. had the best reviews. I NEVER go to someone based on their reviews online so I was a little scared. I usually go by what someone I know says. I'm SO glad I decided to go to Dr. Tony for my procedure. Everyone from the staff, to the dental assistants and the Dr are professionals. They helped me out even when I had a minor issue with Guardian (my dental insurance)! I have to thank them for treating me well. Often you see reviews that say "great Dr. unprofessional staff" NOT HERE. From the moment you walk into the office you are treated with professionalism, respect, patience and understanding. I'm going back for my next procedure in September!

I suffered with migraines and teeth grinding for years. I later found out the teeth grinding was feeding my migraines, making them much worse. Thanks to Dr. Tony Urbanek I was fitted for a TMJ splint and my jaw/neck/tooth pain was completely resolved. My migraines are better also. I wish I'd known about Dr. Urbanek and the TMJ splint much earlier because I wouldn't have wasted so much time and money on the over-the-counter and dentist-recommended mouth gaurds, which didn't help at all. I'm so grateful. Not only that I had an AMAZING experience with their office. They were timely, visits mostly lasting less than 20 min (in and out!), and they were easy to schedule with. The office was clean, the staff was professional, and Dr. Urbanek was caring and thorough in his care. They need a rating better than 5 Stars, "Loved it" for this office!
